A Haunting Gem,
By

Anthony Hindson, when asked to describe the album, called it "Turn of the century rock and raga...perhaps." While there certainly are historical references, the album sounds fresh and explores new territory. "Strewth" is a highlight with stellar musicianship from Shankar and Zakir Hussain. "Sunjog Variation" conjures up the fondest memories of the dearly departed Tony Williams. This is an album for the adventurous soul.

One of the most incredible albums I've ever heard !,

This review is from: It's a Curious Life (Audio CD)
This album was recommended to me by 2 friends. One, a professional guitarist, is a long time Jack Bruce devotee. The other, a life long eastern music afficianado ( she writes for the international music press ). I wasn't particularly interested in either genre until I had a listen to this fabulous recording. The virtuosity is astounding. The compositions as diverse and luscious as anything I've ever heard. I was completely overwhelmed and have listened to it every day, discovering something new and wonderful with each playing. Jack Bruce's voice is certainly one of the finest ever to be recorded. Add to that, the infinitely exquisite jazz rhythms of Tony Williams, the haunting swirls of Shankar's omnipotent violin and Anthony Hindson's masterful work on thirteen string guitar and you have a deeply moving, intensely rocking fusion of Eastern and Western musical delights. Be certain to check out the song " The Whole Romantic Affair ( sung by the honey-throated Deborah Winters ). Its one of those you hear and ask yourself ..." where are songs like this at Grammy Time" ? Get this disc, you'll be touched forever by it.

it took a little while to get used to, but this is truly superb rock-jazz-indian music fusion - ideal for a Sunday afternoon!
