The Talented Miss Durbin,
This review is from: It's a Date [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Pamela Drake (Deanna Durbin) aspires to be a great actress like her mother Georgia (Kay Francis) and her grandmother before. She knows how to make a grand entrance to a party and can talk herself into parts all wrong for her type. She's a truly talented girl with a wonderful singing voice. But the roles she most covets are those that are usually given to her mother who by now is getting too old to play certain parts.
By chance, two important theatrical men see Pamela in a small-scale production. She wows them (and us) with her gorgeous rendition of the bittersweet "Loch Lomond" and is given the part that her mother expected to get. She is told to go away alone, to learn her script through and through, and when she arrives in Hawaii, she will be greeted with an acting coach to make her ready for the legitimate stage. On the boat, she is romanced by the persistent John Arlen (Walter Pidgeon). But it turns out that although he originally had eyes for Pamela, his heart is with Georgia. This is a delightful comedy with several wonderful musical sequences. Durbin carries the film on her talented shoulders and makes us laugh with her outrageous overacting and ache with her sensitivity. She runs the gamut in It's a Date and upstages her seasoned co-stars.

Deanna Durbin Classic,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: It's a Date [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This movie stars Deanna Durbin and the plot involves a Mother and Daughter who by mistaken chance are vying for the same part in a play. The Mother is a known and established actress and Deanna Durbin portrays a girl who is trying to become an actress. The love interest is especially handsome for the time period. While the ending does seem a little bit melancholy, the film is nonetheless pleasant.

When's its date for dvd?,
This review is from: It's a Date [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is yet another classic entry in Deanna's film catalog. It's still really good after all these years.
