Book Description

June 2001
Fedhealth's basic first aid and disaster preparedness manual helps individuals, families, and corporations prepare for many types of emergencies and natural or man-made disasters before they strike. The book is designed to help people examine how best to react in any emergency situation and prepare each family or corporate member to participate effectively. It also includes special sections that specifically address the unique needs of infants, disabled, and elderly family members.

A majority of the information was derived from materials provided by FEMA, Canada’s OCIPEP and the Red Cross and is written at about a 6th grade level with a 2-color format for quick reference.

4.0 out of 5 stars Most of what you need to know to prepare for & following a diaster, May 28, 2008
I have a copy of this book in my disaster "GO" bag & car glove compartment. As a retired emergency manager, I was so impressed with this book, that I ordered 250-copies for employees, prior to my retirement. This book, Red Cross 1st aid & preparedness materials, & "Chronicals of Katrina", gives the best information regarding how to prepare for disasters, & additionally, necessary information on how to begin the road to recovery, post-disaster. Many Red Cross materials are free, & the 2-books mentioned, offer the best value for the information you need to prepare, respond & recover from a disaster. susanf

5.0 out of 5 stars Prepare to Survive any Disaster!, November 24, 2000

This is an outstanding guide. It brings together emergency preparedness and immediate action. Bill and Janet have painstakingly researched all facets of the most likely injuries to occur in a disaster situation. This is a must have resource guide because we know that in a major disaster situation local emegency services are beyond overtaxed and help may not show for hours or days. The second half of the book on preparedness steps are divided by specific types of disasters - hurricane, earthquake, etc. The guides, information, and just plain common sense solutions will save lives. I wish I'd had this book during Hurricane Fran in North Carolina and Hurricane Georges in Puerto Rico. With my flashlight, NOAA radio, canned food, and "It's a Disaster" book, I'll be ready for the next one. Buy one for yourself and one for everybody you care about.

This is useful information for everyone. A great reference to keep on hand for any disaster.

Let's face it, your smart phone and computers will not work when needed most; so don't plan on them being available. Only you are responsible for you; none of us pay for our very own fireman, policeman, or lifeguard. Besides, they have their own families to worry about first.

Think caring for yourself for at least a week.
