About the Author

Susan E. Goodman likes taking long walks, would never put a dog in a costume, and is a soft touch when it comes to giving out treats. She is a busy author whose recent books include See How They Run: Campaign Dreams, Election Schemes and the Race to the White House and All in Just One Cookie, an ALA Notable.

David Slonim’s dog, Maggie, has taught him many things about dogness, including how to bark your head off when the doorbell rings, how to lie around doing nothing, and how to eat without chewing.  David is the award-winning author/ illustrator of He Came with the Couch and Oh Ducky!.  He has illustrated many other books, including Ten Turkeys in the Road, How to Teach a Slug to Read, Silly Tilly and Moishe's Miracle, a New York Times Top 10 Books of the Year selection.

More About the Author

To write my nonfiction books for kids, I have flown onto the polar icecap with the Air Force, shared a bathroom with a tarantula in the Amazon, and spent three days at a Monster Truck rally without ever buying fried dough. Which was the hardest? I'll let you guess.

My book All in Just One Cookie was an ALA Notable and On This Spot was a Washington Post Best Picture Book of its year. My newest books? 2012--See How They Run: Campaign Dreams, Election Schemes, and the Race to the White House and It's a Dog's Life: How Man's Best Friend Sees, Hears, and Smells the World. 2013--How Do You Burp in Space?: And Other Tips Every Space Tourist Needs to Know.

Besides writing for kids, I speak at conferences, schools, and libraries and teach writing for children at Lesley University's MFA program. Visit me at www.susangoodmanbooks.com.

Have you ever wondered what your dog sees when he/she looks at a bone? Or what he/she smells when he/she has his/her snout to the ground? And what is your dog trying to say when he/she looks at you with those big puppy eyes? With a silly text and loveable illustrations, It's a Dogs Life answers those questions and a whole lot more. Covering everything from dog breeds to their evolution and behavior, this obtainable non-fiction book is sure to satisfy even the most insatiable fact hounds. This would be a good book to use for a book report on dogs. There is a AR test available as well.

This book will have you laughing and thinking about what man's best friend really thinks. It's was very enjoyable to read. My children and I read this book and laughed at alot of the things dogs really think. It was very entertaining and leaves you to think "do dogs really think this way?" I have three dash-hounds and after reading this book with my kids we laugh now at the little things they do because we read this book. You'll have to read it yourself and be the judge. If your a dog lover this is the book for you.

We borrowed this book from our public library, and loved it! So much so, that I'm turning around 5 minutes after reading it, and sending a copy to a dear friend's son. Fun illustrations, great fluid writing that is easy to read out loud, and lots of fun facts we will remember forever! I estimate it took us a good 20 minutes to read out loud, so it's not a short book - which is a good thing! My son is 5 1/2, has a few cats, but likes dogs... he also enjoys having "non-fiction" books read to him to pick up interesting facts. This will be a book I reach for as a present from here out. I also plan to look and see what other books have been written by this author, as I really enjoyed her conversational style of writing. Don't hesitate... if you have a young'un that would like to learn some fun things about dogs (evolution from wolves, 'pee-mail', 'top dog', their relationships with humans, how their sense of smell, hearing, and sight are different from humans, and how those senses help in their working roles). But before I do anything at all, I wanted to drop you a note and say - don't hesitate! Buy this book - it's a 'keeper' :)

I just got through reading this book and I thought it was a total delight. I am 59 years old, but I enjoy reading books like this, that are written for kids, because they are usually so insightful and to the point. This book has so many facts in it, that the reader young or old will not be able to put it down until they're finished. Great job!
