it's really the end of the clearance sale

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books, October 18, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: It's a Dog's Life (Hank the Cowdog, No. 3) (Paperback)
This is an interesting experience about how Hank (head of ranch security) leaves and goes to the town to visit his sister Maggie. She tricks him into eating an ivory bar of soap. Then he gets caught by the dog pound and they think he has hydrophobia. However, Hank manages to break out.

This book is about a dog called Hank. He goes on these crazy missions. For example, he has this mission where he tries to get the steaks from the kitchen.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT GIFT, June 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I gave this to my nephew for Christmas. The vocabulary is a little too complex for a first grader, but that will enable him to enjoy this and the full collection I intend to get for him for many years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hank the Cowdog It's a Dog's Life #3, December 13, 2010
This review is from: It's a Dog's Life (Hank the Cowdog, No. 3) (Paperback)
I loved this book a lot, and I would recommend it too anybody! It is funny, and it was a joy to read! The main character was a dog nicknamed "Hank", although his real name is "Henry", which is not mentioned much in this book. There are a couple of little mysteries in it. The first one starts when another dog on the same farm as Hank, named Drover, awakens Hank from his nap to tell him that he heard that the world will end the next day at 3:00 p.m. Hank reacts in a very worried way, saying how it must be impossible for the world to end, although Drover tells him that's it's very true, and he's positive. Then, one of the farmers/owner's of the farm (named Sally May) runs into her car and leaves the farm. They both assume that she has heard the news, and that she is trying to get out of this world. Hank figures out that Drover heard the news from a cat, named Pete. They question him, and he says that he overheard Sally May speaking on the phone, and then write down "End of the World 3:00 p.m." on the calender. How will Hank figure out if this is ture, or not?
Another little mystery in this same book is that in part of the book, while Hank is vistiting his sister, who prepared him a dinner one night, as he finishes eating, he soon realizes that bubbles are coming out of his mouth! He starts to feel sick, and so he runs out into an alley, so that he won't dissapoint his sister because of how bad the food he was fed by her was. Then a van pulls up...
Why would his sister, Maggie ever feed him something that makes him burp up bubbles, and make his mouth start foaming? Read to find out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Boys, February 3, 2010

I introduced Hank to my 8 year old grandson who is not a reader. At this point he is listening to the audio while reading the book. Next step will be reading the book alone. So far, it's working.

I first discovered Hank the Cowdog back in'96, when a Montana shopowner talked me into buying some of the books for my niece. I've been a fan ever since. Hank's often mistaken impressions of the world around him through the eyes of a ranch mutt are highly entertaining and often hilarious. The books make great conversation starters for parents and kids, and are, in short, a delight. The books on tape (read by the author) are just as fun -- maybe even more-so for trips in the car with kids. The miles have flown by before you know it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holds a young boy's interest, April 22, 2008
This review is from: It's a Dog's Life (Hank the Cowdog, No. 3) (Paperback)
This is a good book for my 4th grade son. It is hard to find books on his reading level that hold his interest. The narator of the story is Hank the cowdog (also self proclaimed head of ranch security). The chapters are only 3 or 4 pages and give my son a sense of accomplishment for being able to read a couple of chapters each night.
Hank also has a few pronuciation problems, allowing the young reader to identify correct pronunciation and grammer. The stories are interesting and funny and have really improved my son's interest in reading as well as his grades in reading and language skills.

I love all the Hank books, and this is a great one for the Christmas season. These books are hilarious and more important to the young reader, fun to read. I'd also check the rest of the series.
