This review is from: It's Earth Day! (Little Critter) (Paperback)
I purchased this book for the kindergarten class that I've adopted and ultimately I chose not to even send the book. It seemed to emphasize a lot about a "Climate Control Machine" that was made with ice cubes and what you SHOULDN'T do - rather than what you should. Yes, of course it was meant to be funny - but I just think the children would remember this dumb "machine" rather than ideas that can truly help the planet.
In the end, I didn't think it was the best book at all for children this small. A book that I absolutely LOVED about Earth Day, however, was " I Love Our Earth" by Bill Martin, Jr. The teacher and children loved it too!

Again, I love all Little Critter books. This is a new one so I had to have it. My sons really remembered this book, because they remember to turn out lights now and refer to the book and it's message about simple things we can do to help save the earth:)

Practical tips for recycling,

This review is from: It's Earth Day! (Little Critter) (Paperback)
This is a great books to teach kids and adults alike how easy it is to recycle without requiring a major overhaul to one's life. There are tips about conserving water, using your community's curb side recycling service, planting trees and more.

This review is from: It's Earth Day! (Little Critter) (Paperback)
This book is nicely illustrated and I like the concept but the author misses some wonderful opportunities to teach more about what we can do to take care of the earth. One of the illustrations shows the main character standing in front of the refrigerator with the door wide open for what appears to be an extended period of time as he contemplates climate control. (seems counter intuitive} Then the main character makes a bunch of ice and uses an electric fan all day and into the night to blow air over the ice to cool the planet. Hmmmm... more waste of electricity. Would have been nice to include things we can do in our every day lives in our homes to reduce our carbon footprint like turning off lights, driving less, carpooling, changing light bulbs, solar power, etc etc I should note that the author does do a nice job of going over reduce, reuse, recylce, so it's not entirely bad, just misses the mark.

It's Earth Day! (Little Critter)I am using this book with young children to increase awareness of ways they can help take care of the earth. It is both entertaining and informative. I recommend it for the classroom or for reading and discussing at home.

Global Warming Propaganda,
By
This review is from: It's Earth Day! (Little Critter) (Paperback)
My 5 year old brought this home from kindergarten. It "informs" children that watching television and driving are contributing to polar ice caps melting, which, in turn, is killing polar bears. My jaw just about hit the floor when I read it. What utter garbage. Man-made global warming has proven to be a fraud, and teaching a 5 year old that his television habits kill polar bears is nothing short of vile. I'm all for teaching my kids about conservation and taking good care of their environment, but the propaganda in this book is downright disgusting. I am glad, however, that it gave me the opportunity to discuss the Medieval warming period that global warming cultists dishonestly omit when trying to prove that driving cars destroys the planet. We also discussed the Ice Age and how some adults tell children lies in order to further their own ends.

I'm a nanny and I got this for the little boy I take care of as part of his birthday present. He had just turned 4 and this book was perfect for his level of understanding. The story was entertaining, on the inside front cover they list 10 tips to save the planet, and we had a lot of fun trying to find the little mouse and spider in every picture.
Highly recommend! |
