Editorial Reviews

Having sold millions of albums with their signature laidback lifestyle sound, Pablo Cruise are back LVIVE and not just show casing the hits but fluidly displaying their razor sharp chops. Pablo Cruise was formed in northern California in the mid '70's and the current band lineup includes original founding members Dave Jenkins (guitar and lead vocals), Cory Lerios (piano and lead vocals), Steve Price (drums) and the newest addition to the band Larry Antonino (bass and lead vocals). Recorded live just months ago, this exciting release contains all the classic hits including Love Will Find A Way, Watcha Gonna Do?, Cool Love, Don't Wanna Live Without It and 'A Place in the Sun: to name a few. This hit driven album and band finds itself reteaming with Grammy winning producer Val Garay who produced the bands classic multi-million seller Lifetime. Val will not only add his sonic touches to the live tracks, but he and the band will produce two NEW versions of classic hits, A Place in the Sun, featuring Red Recordinga artist Katrina, who's current album In The Blink of an Eye is enjoying success at Hot AC radio and Love Will Find a Way, featuring Ty Taylor of Vintage Trouble, who just landed the #1 spot on the UK R&B charts and is currently opening for Bon Jovi in Europe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pablo Cruise Returns "Honest Review" November 13, 2011
Format:Audio CD
Speaking as a younger Pablo Cruise fan having listened to all their albums going up thanks to my father I must tell you that anything new and released by this band is a treasure. Pablo Cruise is still a great band that was before their time in the disco era, still they are great and highly underrated.

Pros(+)
Live Pablo Cruise WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED TO KNOW ??? The classics are all here for your listening pleasure and mostly all of their albums are represented in this set list except "Part of the Game LP". Classic cuts, new arrangements and the addition of new bassist Larry Antonino who brings a similar vip that was present on the studio releases and sings similar to Bruce & Bud. Dave Jenkins, Cory Lerios, and Stephen Price can still bring it and Pablo has always been a great live band so enjoy this classic addition to the Pablo Catalog it is a must have and plus you get the entire show on DVD as the second disc I mean what else could you want, and the note by Huey Lewis on the inside is great as well.

Cons(-)
. "Part of the Game" album was ignored from the set list
. "Can't you hear the music" (great track/song to play live by Pablo was not in the set list which sucks)
. New supposed bonus recordings are awful "Place in the Sun" featuring Katrina (pop artist), & Ty Taylor of Vintage Trouble trying to tone down "Love will find a way" both tracks are awful and add nothing to the set you will stop listening to this disc after "will you, won't you". Would have been nice to dump these two tracks and include an eight to ten min live cut of "Can't ya hear the music" as I mentioned above.

Overall still a few grips from us diehard fans but live Pablo Cruise is a winner across the board BUY IT NOW !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars CRUISE ON A SEA OF JOY - GET THE CD/DVD SET December 22, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I was gonna merely respond to Jason for his truthful and heartfelt review of this release but decided to add a few tidbits of my own. I also followed this woefully underrated band for years and enjoyed their upbeat, bouncy and punchy riffs and wonder why remastered CD releases of their work has long been neglected. I have seen PART OF THE GAME, OUT OF OUR HANDS & REFLECTOR offered as Japanese audiophile editions... but I believe there is a legion of fans that would support a resurgence of enthusiasm for these selections to be made available in wide release.
I found one lone copy of this two disc set at my local record haunt and snapped it up like the last coconut on a palm tree. Man was I surprised, thinking this band was long gone since the early eighties. What a fresh breeze these guys are...talented, tuneful, genuinely happy to be playing together and playing their hearts out to their audience. Cory cracks me up with his leering (Lerios?....hmmm) staring at the audience while banging away on the piano...never missing a beat or a note. I'm crazy over his multiple keyboard finger sweeps. Dave also has a cool and easy manner whose voice is still in great shape. There is a chemistry between all four players that is joyful to witness. Newcomer bass man Larry Antonino acquits himself beautifully in all aspects on bass and vocals. Stephen Price on drums is spot on...the jungle beat solos that permeate the concert blend perfectly with the material and never seem out of place.
If you are or ever were a fan of this group, you cannot go wrong picking up (at what I consider a bargain price) this two disc collection.
Now, I have some observations that I do not wish to sound like criticisms...because this whole DVD production has a casual kind of feel in the process of trying to put out a polished performance in the digital age.
First...the camera work. This is at least a four or five camera shoot. Most of the shots are fairly static (split screen shots and blends are kinda cool) but the picture seems to resonate throughout...like the whole stage was vibrating and showing up on screen...kinda like the steadycam had somehow been switched off. Some of the camera movements are jerky and unsure like the operator had momentary spasms (either quick vertical or horizontal jerks). The few editing choices in trying to be artsy are not really necessary but maybe an attempt at recapturing that late 70's, early 80's vibe. There seems to be some visual artifacts in the lighting and pans of the audience and at times seem grainy...but overall shots of the band onstage are okay (save the detection of occasional softness and camera blurring). Again, it makes me feel as though some of this was not overly rehearsed or pre-planned.
The dolby 2.0 sounds pretty good...but this soundtrack makes no attempt at 5.1 or DTS mastering. I cranked up the volume & punched the bass up a bit and all was well.
Just before WHATCHA GONNA DO they clumsily stick in a black and white clip of Dave and Cory commenting on the 1977 single, thus interrupting (the only time they do this) the concert flow. Personally, I'd have opted to make this editing choice available as a DVD extra (of which there are none).
I too, miss the absence of tunes like OUT OF OUR HANDS, ANOTHER WORLD, YOU MIGHT BE WRONG, PART OF THE GAME, I WANT YOU TONIGHT, CAN'T YOU HEAR THE MUSIC...ETC. No gets everything the want at any concert and what they do, they do so well one cannot grouse...the show is 1 hr. 40 min. long and the band sweats up a storm.
One moment onstage where Dave and Cory are telling this story of Dave's car...they bleeped out the language in three spots...this I found a little surprising but seeing the possibility of small kids being invited to sit in during the TV performance I was not adamantly opposed to this editing choice.
So...grab up a copy. Pour yourself a pina colada, crank up the sound and enjoy this show in the spirit in which it was made. I feel it stands up well to multiple viewings and sharing with friends and family is a must.
I am thrilled they're back...I have always loved their logo and the new beach babe sends me...eh, Whatcha gonna do?
