5.0 out of 5 stars DON'T BLINK BECAUSE EVERY SECOND IS FANTASTIC! November 1, 2000
Format:VHS Tape
I have grown up watching this movie every Halloween since age 5. Honestly, I've probably watched this video more than any other video I own and I love it EVERY SINGLE TIME--never a dull moment! If you love Schulz, Snoopy, the Peanuts gang and/or Halloween you simply must own this! It deserves the highest possible rating; five stars doesn't do it justice. It has perfect editing, illustrations, music, voices, script--EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS IS PERFECT! I've done over 70 reviews and I do believe this is the first time I have EVER used the word perfect in one of them!

My favorite scenes are the Snoopy ones, especially the World War 1 Flying Ace (flying doghouse scene with great colors) and the piano scene at the Halloween party where Snoopy dances and marches to the happy song and then changes moods and cries to the sad song..repeating twice. I laugh out loud til I cry every single time! YA GOTTA LOVE SNOOPY! He is so intelligent but sensitive too! What a dog!

My second favorite character in this video is Sally--the way she pitches a fit in the pumpkin patch and says "I was robbed!" then threatens to sue Linus--so hiliarious also! Again it makes me laugh til I cry!

Lucy the bossy and sometimes downright grouchy (to put it mildly) shows a soft side the way she wakes up in the middle of the night, goes to check on Linus and finds his bed empty, then gets dressed and goes to get him freezing in the pumpkin patch and puts him to bed without a word. The ending with Charlie Brown and Linus is endearing as well.

Each character is so unique and entertaining! JUST GET THIS VIDEO! TRULY A TIMELESS CLASSIC! YOU'LL LOVE IT--TRUST ME!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Peanuts November 1, 2001
Format:DVD
I didn't grow up watching this cartoon every year on TV. In fact, I just saw it for the first time last year. However, I liked it immediately because of my love for the Peanuts gang.

There are several story threads, but no one overall story. The gang's plans for Halloween night are interspersed with scenes of Snoopy being a WWI Flying Ace and Charlie Brown trying to kick the football because he has a signed note from Lucy. (Classic line - "It's not notarized.") Charlie Brown cuts too many holes in his ghost sheet, gets rocks in his bag, and becomes a model for a pumpkin face. Meanwhile, Linus and Sally await the Great Pumpkin.

Also on the DVD is You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown. This one follows a more unified story of Linus trying to become student body president. Things are going well, until he starts talking about the Great Pumpkin.

The DVD offers no extra beyond these two classic TV specials. The picture is sharp and the sound is great, however.

This DVD belongs in any Peanuts fan's library.

"It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" is indeed a Charile Brown classic for all ages, child and adult alike. I never tire of watching it every Halloween, and have for over twenty years.

Charlie Brown prepares to go trick-or-treating, dressed as a ghost with many, many eye holes - classic Charlie Brown. Linus, for weeks has been drumming up his belief that the Great Pumpkin will arrive this Halloween and give out treats and presents to all good boys and girls - a take off, of sorts, of Santa Claus.

The only one who believes him, and ultimately sits the whole night with Linus, is Sally, his adoring sweetheart.

While the Peanuts gang go off trick-or-treating, (all Charlie Brown gets are rocks), Linus and Sally wait ... and wait ... and wait ...

Snoppy has his own adventure; dressed as a WW1 flying ace, he dreams of having it out with the infamous Red Baron. A wonderful scene, which has him being shot down over France, and trying desperately to make his way home.

In the meantime, Linus and Sally are still waiting for the Great Pumpkin. As it becomes later at night, Sally begins to speculate. Still, her devotion to Linus keeps her at his side. And yet, it gets later and later until the Peanuts Gang return with bags filled with all sorts of goodies. Sally drools over the treats, soon becoming angry with Linus, and herself, that she sat all night in this pumpkin patch for nothing. She finally stands and has it out with poor Linus, and leaves, disgusted with herself.

Linus continues to wait for the Great Pumpkin, fearful he has done something to offend him, and thinking this is why he has not shown up....

"It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" is one of the great Charlie Brown classics that has endured nearly forty years, and will continue to endure for years to come, entertaining many future generations of children - and their parents. Read more ›

5.0 out of 5 stars Your age doesn't matter...timeless! March 14, 2000
Format:VHS Tape
I've looked at the reviews thus far and noticed that you don't have to be 8 years old to enjoy this movie. The whole Peanuts gang warms your heart no matter what your age is! I've enjoyed this movie for many years now, and was delighted when a friend bought the video for me.

If you're a fan of the Peanuts gang, this movie does not disappoint: Sally with her "Sweet Baboo;" Charlie Brown with his "I got a rock;" Lucy with her constant "You blockhead!" And, of course, every time I watch I smile when Linus proclaims his pumpkin patch to be the most sincere. If you've never seen this movie before, you must buy it now! A definite must-see movie for any person.
