5.0 out of 5 stars Best Halloween Book for Young Readers Ever!
This wonderful book tells the story of an event-filled night for three young people through 13 separate poems about different Halloween night events. Jack Prelutsky's wonderful poems are expertly illustrated by Marylin Hafner- such an excellent teaming, I wish they'd collaborated on more books. I am 25 years old - grew up with this book, and every year around...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not fabulous
I bought this product after hearing the author be compared to Shel Silverstein. I felt the stories in this book are not appropriate for young children - and have decided not to continue to read it to my 3 year old. Not really worth it!

I am 25 years old - grew up with this book, and every year around Halloween I find Parts of Prelutsky's poems dancing around in my head, along with favorite scenes of illustration. If this book were not back in print, I'd scour the globe looking for a copy - every child, and every Halloween-loving adult should own one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book that sticks with you!, August 23, 2000
By A Customer
I first read this book MANY years ago. I got it from one of those wonderful Scholastic book order forms that were given out in class. I STILL love all the poems in it and have found that they stuck in my mind for all these years. I am delighted to find that it is still in print. This is an excellent addition to the library of anyone who has children or who enjoys Halloween in general!

It is the best Halloween book ever. It has just the right amount of creepiness to get kids really excited about Halloween. A fun book with simple rhyme schemes and memorable illustrations, it will keep kids interested. I'm 27 and I still love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Halloween IS Halloween, October 31, 2000

There must have been a lot of kids in the early 80s who got this book through a Scholastic Book Club and loved it. I am 26 now and this book still haunts me even though I have not seen my childhood copy in over 5 years. Though every Halloween I think of this book and the excitement I felt reading it as a kid. I especially love the goblin sitting in the tree outside the one boy's window towards the end. The look on his face is so reflective, it's creepy! I recommend this to ANYONE who has kids, who knows kids, or who is a kid.

5.0 out of 5 stars and we shall see what can't be seen / on any other night, October 29, 2005
This review is from: It's Halloween (Paperback)
my mom enjoys telling this story:

when i was about four, she checked "it's halloween" out at our local small-town library and brought it home. i made her read it every night, memorizing every word, and if she tried to skip a page, i'd call her on it.

when it came time to return the book, she couldn't find it and had to pay for a new copy for the library. some time later, she was cleaning my room and discovered where i'd stashed my copy under my bed.

greatest halloween book, and among the greatest children's books in general, ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, spooky poems for ages 3+, November 6, 2010

This is a classic that I loved growing up and that I now get to share with my kids. My 2-almost-3-year-old loves these poems, and I have to explain a few things, but not too many. These poems are probably just right for kids about 4-10 years old, although there are funny illustrations and jokes in there for the adults as well... I enjoy these poems just as much as or more than I did 25 years ago!

5.0 out of 5 stars I have two copies of this book..., September 8, 2010
This review is from: It's Halloween (Paperback)
The original one I read a million times since the moment I received it as a very little girl, and the new one I purchased DECADES later so I will be able to keep the other one safe from further wear (the cover is hanging on by a thread!) This was my favorite book as a child and remains so to this day. It had just the right amount of spookiness and silliness to delight my 4 year old self! The lyrical poems are wonderful to read aloud and the illustrations are so fun! Children will want to go back to this book time and again to study the pictures and I am sure they will soon be reading the story (poems) again to themselves. That is one of the most wonderful things about this book, it invites kids to dive into this wonderful night and spend time with all the kids and spooks, all the while learning to love poetry in a natural way. This year will be my child's first Halloween and I can't wait to read this to her and start a yearly tradition! I understand that some children are more easily spooked than others, so you must keep in mind that this IS a Halloween book and so ghosts and monsters are to be expected. AND if you are looking for something a little more spooky I highly recommend "Nightmares: Poems to Trouble Your Sleep" by the same author! Creepy fun!!

My dad would read this book to us when we were little. With the arrival of our new little girl, we decided to stock up on some favorites and I couldn't have been more excited to find this book. It is a great book to get your kids in the trick or treat spirit. They will laugh and they will love it. Warning: you may be forced to read this to them several times a week at bedtime. Enjoy.

I love this book. I use to read this book to my children when they were little. Now my children have children, and I wanted them to also enjoy this fun book. To me, this represents all my childhood memories of Halloween. I love the illustrations! I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Halloween.
