A Book for All Genders and Ages, September 4, 2007
This review is from: It's Harder in Heels: Essays by Women Lawyers Achieving Work-Life Balance (Perfect Paperback)
Privileged to know several of this book's authors, I found their stories lively, informative, and inspirational. Organized so the reader encounters each woman's essay before her resume, one's tendency to weigh the author's message on the scale of her credentials is benignly arrested. These stories strum strikingly similar chords of persistent sexism in the workplace but also celebrate steadfast commitments to self-actualization, including its unforeseen avenues and ultimate rewards. In our troubled and uncertain times, this is a book for all genders and ages.

Inspiring, humbling, empowering ..., August 20, 2007
This review is from: It's Harder in Heels: Essays by Women Lawyers Achieving Work-Life Balance (Perfect Paperback)
Disclaimer: I am one of the women in heels in the book, and I fell in love with the book before I even read it. The idea of a bunch of us writing about what it means to hit the glass ceiling, mommy wall, to leave our profession or chose to stay in spite of it all, was empowering to me. When I got a copy of the book and could -- for the first time -- read all the other women's stories of struggle and victory, I was humbled. The amazing women in this book could run circles around me (and I run a mean circle myself)! But mostly I found inspiration in the many ways we have done things our way, broadened what it means to be a professional woman, a woman lawyer, judge, entrepreneur. Whether or not you are an attorney, your journey will be lightened knowing you are not alone. Happy reading!
