Remixes Should Have Gone In a Different Direction,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: It's Like That 1 (Audio CD)
Although these remixes of "It's Like That" are definitely better than any remixes of Mariah's this side of the century (particularly the Charmbracelet-era remixes, which had no rerecorded vocals), they definitely leave a considerable amount to be desired.
David Morales has definitely worked wonders with Mariah's material in the past, but the simple fact is that his present-day efforts leave a great deal to be desired. The entire production of the Club Mix of the track, indeed, sounds a great deal similar to the awesome such mix that Morales did of "Dreamlover" for Mariah back in 1993 - a true signal that he has one foot too many stuck in the past. Most important, it renders hardly half the same listening pleasure. Meanwhile, the Classic Mix is actually superior in quality, despite the fact that it sounds more similar to the Club Mix than it should, particularly in the first few minutes of the track. The reason it beats the quality of the Club Mix, however, is that the tempo is far more peppy and vibrant, carrying the song along without sounding as awkward as the Club Mix. The biggest and most important problem with the Morales mixes, however, is the direction with which they take "It's Like That." A sharp track with a defiant, aggressive melody with lyrics to match, the song makes little sense reworked with this perky, fun-loving vibe. The unreleased Pounds Boy Main Mix of the track, which leaked on the internet almost as soon as the single hit radio, preserves the original attitude of the song, and, despite using the original vocals, sounds worlds better than Morales' mixes. The "Stereo Experience," however, is a totally different deal. A deep, simple house mix moving at a slow-burn pace where her sped-up voice suddenly appears 2 minutes in, letting it stand stark and prominent admist the production, it serves as a unique treat. The lyrics and their meaning come across best as they possibly can in this light. It should be noted, however, that the No Rap version sounds almost completely ridiculous without the company of Fat Man Scoop. The worst part is the ending where Mariah belts "here we go now what" all by her lonesome; nothing has ever sounded more awkward. This version is a complete waste of disc space. The original LP version, of course, is certainly not. Having reached #16 on the Billboard Hot 100, the song became her 25th Top 20 hit. The aforementioned Morales mixes, however, currently stand at #2 on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, which will most likely be their peak. A final note: The fold-out bonus poster that comes with the single is definitely a real treat for the eyes of any red-blooded straight guy. It comes highly recommended that you take a look.

Did She Really EVER LEAVE US?,

NO....in all cap locks. I got this extrodinary remix a while back, when I heard news of it in the works. Lucky 4 me I have "inside friends" with promotional released copies (not to be confused with a bootleg...SUPPORT your favorite artists) and I must say that if she "did leave us" God Bless her and US, for blessing us with her gift, being her drive, talent and voice... This remix as well as the Full CD is simply amazing, one song leads into the other (Ava. 4/12/05) in local stores and on line. So grag it when you have the time, or right NOW, what are U waiting for? Dave Morales mixes are great around 8 - 9 min and the last mix the Stereo Exp. mix is outstanding (if I recall over 10 min) I can't remember right now, pay the $ for the 3 mixes alone, however Mariah has a way of allowing general access to her remixes when released domestically in the USA, most all the time... they have the same tracks as the Import, sometimes different and better mixes, along with the import edition. Welcome Back, from your time away, and it is a heart felt welcome. You have gone through alot in your personal life etc.... Sometimes artists or anyone in life have to step back and look at life, and where it is going, and where you want it to go to, set a goal....and this is what has happened. Pure excellence. And there are those people that "just do not like mariah" well then that is your opinion, and you have every right to post a comment in a civil manner, however, at least give her a chance, you may be very surprised, everyone deserves a chance, as well as a second one. She's Back,

I was actually hesitant when I heard about a new Mariah track, but since she has a great voice, I decided, what the heck! The song is actually good. The bonus remixes are also great!

I have heard the song It's Like That and have seen the video and Mariah is definitely using her voice that I love so much!!! It's an awesome song and video and I just got The Emancipation Of Mimi and the CD single for It's Like That and the single for It's Like That is so awesome!!!! I love all 5 mixes on this CD single and it's so cool how on the three dance mixes, Mariah hits that really high note that I love so much!!! You don't hear that high note on the Album/Main version or on the No Rap version but you definitely hear it on the three dance mixes. All three dance mixes are cool but my favorite is the Stereo Experience mix which is 10:45 because the music is so unique and there are so many different things going on and near the end of the Stereo Experience mix, the sound of the music makes me think of waves of an ocean crashing on a beach, it just sounds so cool. I also like the David Morales Club Mix which is 8:27 and the David Morales Classic Mix which is 8:58 a lot as well. Also on the three dance mixes, you'll hear Mariah laugh. I haven't listened to The Emancipation Of Mimi yet because I just got it and this CD single today and as I am writing this, I am listening to the CD single but I can't wait to hear her new full length album!! Mariah is my favorite singer of all time and always will be!!!!

Though I'm not that big of a fan of the original version of the track, I had high hopes for the David Morales' remixes. Unfortunately, the ones here are nothing extraordinary; better remixes, by the same "remixer" can be found on the two-disc greatest hits remix effort.
In fact, the three "reworkings" offered here sound more dated than ones produced a decade ago. And, for that, I am sorely disappointed.

even though it wasn't as good as it should have been. the club mixes are okay but could've been done by someone else like Jason Nevins, Hex Hector or Mac Quayle at least for a change. But the song is for the clubs to get your butts to "Shake It Off" all night!

Diva In Tune,

With so many different, younger acts out there that really seem to be manufactures these days, it is just too easy to forget about older divas like Vanessa Williams, Whitney Houston, and of course Mariah Carey. 2005 has so far proved to be a good time for her as her 15th anniversary comes into view. Her latest single, It's Like That, the first from The Emancipation of Mimi, is a very driven, hypnotic upbeat pop song that is one of her best in quite awhile. The song is very well put for Mariah, and her reflections for R&B & Hip Hop. Unlike Britney Spears, Ashnati, or Jennifer Lopez, Mariah has still maintained that vibe and still knows how to carry it out to the best of her voice.

Bad Remixes,
By
This review is from: It's Like That 1 (Audio CD)
It's a pity to see how bad the official remixes of the hottest track this summer "It's Like That" are. Apart from the first and last track in this CD, the rest is discardable. The no rap version sounds lacking especially when after listening to the with rap version, and I really can't think of why would ppl listen to a without rap version of this song. In all remixes, the pace of the song speeded up and that's nice, apart from the fact that DM's mixes (both of them) sound so dated it's almost unbelievable. They have also taken away the cool and laid back feel of the track. In comparison the last track "stereo experience" is so much more better. But really, It's Like That is a great song and deserves remixes that have much much higher quality than these.
