Game on! Who knew tennis could be so full of broken hearts and sexual encounters? Okay. I think most everyone knew there was some of it going on, but there's a lot more in this fiction by A.G. Starling. IT'S A LOVE GAME pairs number one female tennis contender Lizzie with number one male player Jack. It all starts with a doubles game -- Jack and Christina, who are partners on and off the court, against Lizzie and Dave. Dave is anxious to start a romantic relationship with Lizzie, but she is resistant.
Jack pulls an unsportsmanlike move and stops the game for a "leg cramp," and Lizzie cannot help but notice other attributes of his while his thigh is getting massaged. Lizzie and Dave lose the match and she is not happy about it. She blames Jack and his playboy ways increasingly get on her nerves.
Throw in some other players -- women after Jack and one particular hot Spanish man after Lizzie (not Dave, but Rodolfo) -- and you got a romance entangled in the tennis net!
As romances go, this is not too bad. Starling is able to develop the characters nicely and you are really able to relate to Lizzie. She is definitely not a Mary Sue! The plot is able to keep up a steady pace, without becoming too bogged down in gooey, mushy, lovey stuff.
I was actually interested in reading what was going to happen next. That does not usually happen with romances. I can pretty much figure out who is going to end up with who. Starling is able to keep you guessing.
As romances go, I give it 4 out of 5 stars. Kudos to Starling for keeping the sugary sweetness and unrealistic romantic gestures to a minimum.

This is certainly a love story - and I'm usually not a fan of them - but thankfully author A.G. Starling take a bit of a different route in this sultry, sexy, yet still romantic tale of tennis players.

When tennis partners Lizzie and Dave play against Jack and his partner Christina, Lizzie is playing the doubles game of her career and the chance at becoming a mixed-doubles champion. Jack begins complaining about leg cramps, so the game is called off - as well as Lizzies chance to finally become a champion.

Lizzie is a very strong woman and when she sees something she wants, she goes after it; and she wants Jack. But can she really be attracted to man that ruined her chances of becoming a champion? After all, Jack is your typical ladies man and is notorious for his playboy tendencies. In addition, could she actually bring herself to have a relationship with someone that has such poor sportsmanship?

When Lizzie finally gives in to how attracted she is to Jack, it doesn't make his current partner (on and off the court) Christina very happy. In addition, she has the number one mens tennis player, Rodolfo Salazar, hot on her trail because he doesn't want Jack to have, what he feels he deserves.

Even though I couldn't care anything about tennis, that fact didn't take away my enjoyment of this book. The characters were great and the story was fast paced and kept my attention. I would definitely recommend this - a great Sunday afternoon read!

You guys know how I love a good love story, and this is a review for yet another one! I received this book to review three days ago, and I haven't put it down since. Seriously. It's that good!

The book focuses on Lizzie, an awesome tennis player, and her love issues and battles that she faces. It is kind of a book about a love triangle, or more than a triangle... A square? Pentagon? LOL I don't know how to describe it! It is a very interesting read and keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

I was a little concerned about the book's focus on tennis, since I am not really a big sports fan. But, that definitely didn't stand in the way of me enjoying the book. I was also a little afraid that with all of the characters involved, that things would be jumbly and confusing, but fortunately that wasn't the case at all.

This book is a great read, especially if you are a romance lover like myself! It keeps you guessing, and you are always wondering what is going to happen next. I really like how fleshed out the characters are, they were easy to imagine and easy to relate to. I felt like I really got to know all of the characters while still keeping on pace with the story. Perfect balance! All in all, this was a great book that I would recommend to anyone!

Lizzie plays tennis and is very independent. She's very good at tennis and wants to win big. Then you have Jack who is also very good at tennis, but he is more of a playboy. He has a girlfriend named Christina. They are not that serious as they think they are though.

Lizzie and Dave team up against Jack and Christina in a tennis match. Lizzie is trying to win the doubles champion. Jack ends up getting leg cramps so the game is called off. That means Lizzie's chance at winning the champion is also off.

Lizzie and Jack end up suffering injuries at the same time, which makes them have to sit out on a big event. The start to spend a lot more time together and realized that they actually like each other. They even spend time together with Jacks mom. As relationships start to build, other people get in the way. Will Jack and Lizzie end up together as a couple? You will have to read the book to find out.

I really enjoyed this book. I didn't think I was going to like it because it was about tennis. I'm not a big fan of books about sports. This was more than just tennis, it was about romance as well. I really love romance books, so this book was a great read for me. Hard to set the book down as well.
