Biography

Cher has had three careers that place her indelibly in the public consciousness, and two have been in association with her then-husband, composer/producer/singer Salvatore "Sonny" Bono (February 16, 1935-January 8, 1998). She charted major hit records in the 1960s and 1970s, working in idioms ranging from early-'60s girl group-style ballads to Jackie Deshannon folk-influenced pop, to adult… Read more in Amazon's Cher Store

1.0 out of 5 stars U.K. CHER MASTERPIECE RE-MIXED & DESECRATED, May 13, 2004

This review is from: It's a Man's World (Audio CD)
Cher went to England and recorded "It's A Man's World" which stands as one of the greatest albums of the DIVA'S brilliant career that should have become the International comeback that "Believe" ultimately became but a weird and unnecessary remix of the U.K. classic is believed to be the reason this project didn't create a much deserved comeback...many feel that for some strange reason Cher's brilliant moment was sabotaged and anyone who listens to the original U.K. release which is soulful and brilliant then puts on this bizarre one tone "U.S. Edition" will come to the same conclusion. All the guts is removed along with the great rhythm tracks which make the U.K. release a complete soul stirring masterpiece so get the U.K version and enjoy Cher in her finest hour at her absolute peak!!! Please release the ORIGINAL~Cher doesn't deserve having one of her finest recorded masterpieces desecrated!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cher's Best Work, August 19, 2002
By
Chris S. "cscotts" (atlanta, ga United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: It's a Man's World (Audio CD)
It's sometimes hard to decide which version of Cher's IT'S A MAN'S WORLD is better, the US version or this, the import. While the domestic release seemed to be going for a more R&B slanted feel, the import adheres a little more closely to the pop/rock work of her late eighties albums, the main difference being that the songs are of far higher quality. This version contains the original versions of 'Angels Running','Paradise Is Here','Not Enough Love In The World' and the far superior take on the set's first single 'One By One', as well as three additional tracks. Those acquainted only with the American release would do well to investigate this equally strong disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars STUNNING IMPORT MASTERPIECE~BRAVO CHER!!!, May 13, 2004

This is the totally awesome masterpiece that Cher recorded in England which should have been the major recording comeback that "Believe" ultimately became! If this original classic had been released in the U.S., this strong set that opens with a soulfully stirring "Walking In Memphis" would have put Cher back on top before "Believe" did!! Don Henley's "Not Enough Love In The World" is incredibly moving and easily the definitive version becomming a solid Cher classic and the great "One By One" is a haunting rhythm rocker that would have been a huge #1 hit had this great version been given single release instead of the watered down U.S. remixed version that totally missed the mark...why and how did this unnecessary remix happen and who was responsible for it and what were they thinking? Next is a wildly funky and very soulful rocker that wasn't even on the "U.S. Edition" and Cher has never sounded finer than she does on the bluesy "I Wouldn't Treat A Dog (The Way You Treated Me)" which makes good use of the repeat mode. Out front with another soulful vocal make "Angels Running" another winner and "Paradise Is Here" show Cher in peak form making it clear that there is not one throw away song on this mesmerizing and classic set...anyone listening will be blown away by Cher's passionate and stunning vocal on the incredible "I'm Blown'Away" while she is equally magnificient on the soft-rocking "Don't Come Around Tonight" which sounds like another huge "hit" that should have happened!!! Hauntingly gorgeous is Cher on the intoxicating "What About The Moonlight" while longing and realization make "The Same Mistake" a stunning classic. "The Gunman" is Cher at her soulful and haunting best turning in one of the finest vocals of her brilliant career while her masterfully stirring vocal on the evergreen "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" easily matches the great Frankie Valli original. Simply said, there is no topping the great Cher in this masterful set of extraordinary and diverse performances and this is one of her greatest ever! "Shape Of Things To Come" is another soulful rocker with Cher totally mesmerizing while the closing "It's A Man's World" for this music lover easily matches the great original...get this IMPORT classic while you can as it doesn't get better than this...and WARNER BROTHERS, for all that Cher has done for you over the years you owe it to Cher and her audience to release this masterpiece in this great original form...one of the all time classics~BRAVO CHER...you rock!!!
