from the mid 80s hardcore punk sceane comes the massive raw sounds of blast.a band that combined the early sst sound such as black flags damaged era with d.c hardcore(such as void and fath) along with explorations in changeing the mold of hardcore..there sound is not like the hardcore of today because with the feedback onslaught and off kilter time changes it will be mostly dissmissed as heavy jazz or something.also buy todays standards the production is often some of the rawest caught on record .not the overproduction of today .these guys actully played these songs live in the studio and did a great job with it captureing there power. this band in there day were what all hardcore music where all inspiring to sound like. but very few bands or people really caught on.so it is here for you to maybe find.this 2nd realise of the band also has the ep school out of course the cover of alice coppers classic done basiclly BLASTS way.so when you are searching out some new hardcore and you want something that is true to the sound .this one is definately it..good luck

Anyone who has overlooked BL'AST! because of the inevitable heavy Black Flag comparison are completely missing the point and missing out on some great hardcore. The band said themselves in an old Flipside that they unabashedly worship and imitate Flag and are honored to be compared to them. Someone who reviewed BL'AST!'s first LP, The Power of Expression, on Amazon.com said they sounded like the perfect marriage between SSD's Get It Away 12" and Black Flag's Damaged LP, and I suppose that sums up their sound pretty well. Kent McClard from Ebullition Records and HeartAttaCk zine said they were probably the best live band he's ever seen. I bet. So much intensity and power. A bunch of surfer dudes on a mission to "surf and destroy", and they do indeed. All you need is The Power of Expression and It's In My Blood LP's, and you're all set my friend. Like Swiz, BL'AST! are a bit of an acquired taste. Expect songs above the 3:00 mark on average, sometimes even 5:00! *GASP!* The songs never bore me but thrash kids who don't listen to anything over 50 seconds will turn it off. See for yourself. Get it into it.

BL'AST is probably one of the heaviest and most solid hardcore bands to come out of the 1980's... SWIZ is the only other band that comes close. They're known for intense vocals, noisy guitars and interesting tempo changes. The musicianship that goes into their albums is impressive- great guitar work, awesome drums. Alot of people say that they have a "BLACK FLAG" sound- which is true in terms of the noisiness of it and the guitar sound... but BL'AST is way more "hardcore" as opposed to "punk" and I think BL'AST's song structures are far more interesting. BL'AST is the sort of band that paved the way for stuff like SAM BLACK CHURCH.

This album was recorded live in the studio so it's a good recording in terms of production and it captures the intensity of the music played live as well. It's an incredible album and just as good as their other major l.p. "Take the Manic Ride".
