5.0 out of 5 stars no doubt strike gold with an awesome cover...
This Talk Talk cover is really outstanding, i definately consider it one of the hottest singles of the year. Stefani's voice is electric and bounces of the stereo with her signature tough playful sound. the chorus is very strong, vibrant, and alive. "it's my life" is climbing up all of the charts and already has tremendous radio airplay, i'm really impressed...

1.0 out of 5 stars Ewwww YUCK!!
I had to sign online just to find out who sings the DREADFUL remake of Talk Talk's "It's My Life". I love Talk Talk's song and when I heard a remake of it on the radio I couldn't figure out how in the world this girl or woman or whoever was ever allowed in a recording studio let alone record this song. I thought "she sings worse than Brittany Spears (if that's even...

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS SONG!, March 12, 2004
This review is from: It's My Life (Audio CD)
When I first heard this song, I didn't give it to much notice. It wasn't until I heard it the second time, and realized I knew all the words that I started paying attention. This song is absolutely amazing, and one of my favorite songs of all time. Everything about this song is perfection. Gwen sounds amazing, and the raw emotion she uses at times is superb. The music, as in instruments, are nothing short of amazing, and they all blend together so well. I've played this song way to many times to count, and yet I have yet to get sick of it. Just an amazing song, by an amazing band. Check it out.

What a fab song! No Doubt and their lead singer Gwen Steffani just get better and better. Despite what some critics say I think Gwen's voice does do this song justice, she sings it with just the right amount of emotion and power and her voice is truly hypnotic as is her performance in the video, going from prison fatigues to sexy mistress in the blink of an eye.

The video is very dark and satirical and fits the song like a glove. Brilliant!

Yuck!! Now I know who NEVER to buy an album by.
I tried to give it a 1/2 or 1/4 star but I guess a whole one is the least one available.
Give me Celine, Christina Ag., or Jaci Velasquez anyday!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm lovin' it!, January 18, 2004

I listened to Talk Talk's version of It's My Life, and I found it to be o.k. His singing voice in that song did not impress me. But, Gwen sang the song beautifully, her voice was perfect for the song. Gwen did a great job. I guess all the song really needed was a female voice.

You people should stop lounging around this crap and go get Talk Talk's album, 'It's My Life', with the original version, which is sooooo much better.
This is crap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it., December 25, 2003

I've heard both versions of this song because I love 80's music and this version is the better of the two. Gwen's voice gives this track a uniqueness that wasn't there when Talk Talk covered it. Catchy song, I find myself singing the chorus of it in my head all the time. Buy this, it's excellent.

It is no surprise that for their first Singles collection No Doubt would choose to cover an 80's band. The Talk Talk's tune "It's My Life" gets the sunnier, glossier treatment in this new New Wave cover. After choosing between this and Depeche Mode, INXS songs, the band made a good choice and settled with this one which shows the band's capacity for technical excellence and melodic emotion. Gwen Stefani's voice shines as well as the over-all production which has a breezy quality. Equally enjoyable for the more hardcore fans are the included 3 live tracks. "Sunday Morning" jumps and dances around while "Rock Steady" is a dreamy, reggae-tinged performance and wonderful slide guitar by Tom Dumont. "Bathwater" is a fun, exciting take on 20's cabaret and feels more enticing live than on record (as cabaret should). For fans who already have all the only albums here they get the new song plus some good live treats.
