What goes around comes around,

What more can be said about John D. Loudermilk that hasn't been said in the last 40 years? Okay, it's not "Blue Train," but "It's my Time" is equally good and the social commentary is just as relevant today as it was in the 60s. This Hamburg, Germany production includes a detailed discography. Otto Kitsinger (Nashville, Tennessee) provides several pages of notes, explaining the logic behind the lyrics which are also included. All numbers were written by Loudermilk except for Gordon Lightfoot's "Talking Silver Cloud Blues" and "Honey" of Bobby Goldsboro fame. "The Little Grave," which can still draw tears, proves that this kind of good old stuff doesn't ever really age.

More great original perform by the great songwriter himself,

John D Loudermilk is the composer of many pophits from the 1960s. Hearing Loudermilk doing his own songs, once more it is clear that the original versions are always the best. Most of JDL's work is now brought together on 3 cd's. The issue by Bear Recordcompany garantees optimum quality and has an interesting booklet added. 'Sitting on the Balcony' covers his early work, a few good ones and a for the rest his not completely succesful efforts to be a teenage star. But it also has the original "Tobacco Road", a strong, sober, folky performance. The second 'Blue Train' contains his hits and best work. The third 'It's My Time' contains many interesting additional songs. Some folky, critical (almost protest songs!). Title track 'It's my time' was covered by the very young Dolly Parton. 'The Little Bird' is best known in the version by Marianne Faithful (as 'This Little Bird'). 'Interstate 40' was done by Lonnie Donegan, 'To Hell With Love' by Adam Faith and 'Do You?' by George Hamilton IV. 'The Jones' was done by Hickory garage band Neal Ford & Fanatics. Only superfluous song: 'Honey', a cover of the well known Bobby Russell-song. Shows once more that covers always are inferior to originals...

Excellent intro to JDL,

This has some of JDLs best stuff all in one package. Its less commercial than some of the other CDs in the series but the quality of the featured songs is excellent. The recording quality also shows up John's fine voice and playing too.
