We have had a computer in the house for at least 10 years, I have never touched it!! A friend gave me this book for my birthday, and now I am using the computer, I was never able to understand when I was told how to use it, Abby's book made it easy for me to get around the computer, and learn without feeling stupid, I now can keep in touch with a grandaughter in the Air...

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless Content
I bought this book to help my parents learn how to use computer. Half of the book talks about how to buy a new computer, and how to set it up. The part which talks about how to use it also is pretty useless. It doesnt have any illustrations and step by step procedure to follow. The book reads more like a storybook than a tutorial.

I threw it in garbage, and...

5.0 out of 5 stars "Never Too Late" is Right On Time, June 7, 2001
By
At last someone came out with a book that explains the basics of computer usage and Internet navagation that I need. Stokes beautifully explains it all without either dumbing it down or talking over your head; and does it with humor and patience. In the 20th century I traveled the world by boat and plane taking in the sights and sounds of all it has to offer. In the 21st century the world comes to me through my computer thanks to the internet with help from "guide books" like this one. Bravo Abby Stokes

5.0 out of 5 stars Dear Abby: Thank you, thank you!, June 20, 2001
...for bringing light and joy to those who just haven't been comfortable with computers. Abby helps potential surfers, intimidated by the prospect of learning a new language and finding their way around a new machine, to overcome their fears and appreciate all the great things that they can accomplish with this cool tool. She offers practical guidance to novices, and clearly and methodically illuminates the paths to communicating on the World Wide Web. And Abby is such a sweetheart: she never condescends or loses her temper. Do you know someone who's struggling to get up-and-running on the computer? This is the book for them.

I have been playing around with my computer for a while, not really not knowing too much. Just playing games!! Now I can surf with the best of them! I now can keep up with my Grandchildren, who always knew more than me! I have bought many computer books that couldn't understand. I was even more comfused after trying to read them. They just sat on a shelf. NOW THIS IS A BOOK I UNDERSTAND!! Again thank you Ms Stokes !

As a small child Abby loved toys with buttons, levers and dials so she moved easily into the new tech world. As a senior citizen, I really enjoy the places that my computer can take me and have been known to remark that I would rather have it than my car. Hurry and give us volume two!

5.0 out of 5 stars A computer book I can understand!, March 18, 2001
This is the first computer book I have been able to read cover to cover and understand it. The chapter on word processing was most helpful to me. Even though I currently use the internet, I was able to learn more and find things that I have been missing! Now when I talk to my children about the computer I know what the words mean! I'm looking forward to a second book!

4.0 out of 5 stars The book I've been waiting for, March 14, 2001
By
For months I've been dawdling with my computer, trying to learn it's workings on my own. Beaucoup frustration, losing words, paragraphs, my mind. Then I ran across Abby Stokes' book. I can't say the world opened for me but it has clearly clarified my approach to the machine that I dreaded opening. I feel I understand what I am doing when I touch the keyboard. Thanks Ms. Stokes.

This review is from: It's Never Too Late to Love a Computer: The Fearless Guide for Seniors (Paperback)
I am not a NEWBIE, as the book calls beginners, but I was trying to find the perfect book for a friend who is about to get her first computer at age 50. I read the book myself and still learned a lot of things that I did not know!! This is the perfect book and it covers so much from buying a computer, setting it up -- even to the number one game for NEWBIES -- solitaire! I was very impressed.

This book is the reason that my mom has become more comfortable using a computer. She is currently planning to take more classes in order to become more proficient.
