I very, very seldom give a book 5 stars, but I really and truly loved this book. Everything about it is encouraging and uplifting - it's even better than That Winning Feeling, Savoie's previous book on this topic. As someone who wrestles with focus, patience, and avoiding distractions when I ride, I was totally impressed with Jane Savoie's simple approach to improving one's arsenal of visualization and positive-thinking techniques. Simply by training your mind, you can hugely improve your performance and your enjoyment of riding. And these techniques are totally applicable to all endeavours in life. The ideas are not new, but have seldom been expressed so kindly and so clearly, particularly with respect to horses. As a bonus, the hardcover edition of this book is also very beautiful, with lovely photos, illustrations and layout. Highly recommended!!

Although I have not owned this book for a great deal of time when writing this review, already it has become a firm favourite.

When that little voice inside us keeps telling us, watch out, this horse may shy and you will be off, or watch this horse it is a very dodgy ride,today it's too windy/rainy/cold,or even, I cannot possibly ride my horse outside on the roadside, etc, etc. If you have any problem with being absolutely confident or are being overly nervous, then this book is definitely for you. I found that when I was younger, I didn't even think of any consequences to riding a horse - it was such a tremendous feeling - and I went everywhere possible with my horse. As you grow older, you start to think what MIGHT happen (or at least I did). This is where this book again comes in to help. It is so very positive and also helps with other areas of one's life. I cannot recommend this book highly enough to anyone having problems with nerves, confidence, courage or determination.

After all that is said, at an older age I own a particular horse who has definitely challenged my abilities as a trainer by throwing in some 'before unheard of' type of problem, one that I could not look up or seek help from anyone else and with which I have had to cope (thankfully and mercifully successfully now). It took almost two years to overcome some of her problems and she is still finding more for me. I expect she will always be a challange, and explosive, but she is here with me and safe and not in some pet pack as dog food. Strangest thing of all I suppose is that I genuinely care for this horse and would not part with her. The moral being that I needed all the help I could find both in this book and clicker-training.

This was the first of the three books I ordered that I read. Couldn't wait to get it and did not put it down once started. Tons of insight on how to approach training and riding when you don't have a lot of money to spend for lessons and personnel trainers. Very useful on how to stay motivated, how to use your inner self to conquer doubts, fears, and build confidence. The results are immediate when you choose to apply what Jane recommends. Very easy reading and any one can do this.

Good job at training you to do mental preparation too. Can work with other species, not just about the horses.

This book is a great tool to learn how to ride out of your head. It doesn't matter what style of riding it will help you overcome the mental blocks that prevent you from being the rider you want to be.

I have enjoyed reading this book. I admire Jane and all of her sucess in both life and the horse world. I thought at first that it was just about horse oriented material but Jane also digs in to how as a person to over come things. This book was more than I expected. I would suggest this book to others.

Not many books can hold that claim either, but after a terrible fall that broke my wrist and a bit of my spirit I needed help. For the first time in my life I was terrified to get on a horse. While my wrist was healing I read this book and it mended my broken spirit. If you struggle with any part of riding, or other parts of your life, this book really helps get your mind in the right place to succeed. I have even used this books when teaching children to over come fears in their academic lives. It is a must!

Well written and a joy to read. A must read for any horseman trying to improve their riding.
