5.0 out of 5 stars $11+ bucks well spent!
This book is a lot of bang for a little buck. I picked it up for a sad friend but read it before handing it over. It was a great funny read. Could skip around the sections depending on your mood. When my friend finally got ahold of it she said it really helped!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not really about breaking up
I was disappointed in this book, because I had thought it was a book about dealing with a breakup and it isn't.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not really about breaking up, June 3, 2003
This review is from: It's Not Me, It's You: A Modern Girl's Guide to Breaking Up (Hardcover)
I was disappointed in this book, because I had thought it was a book about dealing with a breakup and it isn't.

What it is is a book of funny and cute advice about romance in general, mostly presented as answers to letters that readers have sent in to the author's website. The questions answered range from "I'm sixteen, should I hurry up and have sex now?" to "I'm happily married, but I'm still hung up on my ex-husband, who's in prison. What should I do?" and not many of them deal directly with breakups. All the letters are available online.

What appears to have happened is that the publisher decided that books on breakups are more marketable than funny books on being single, so they added a table of contents that looks convincing, some cute graphics and a purple, fake suede cover to seem comforting - oh, and each chapter heading does in fact have a couple of pages of content actually dealing with what the chapter claims to be dealing with ("ex sex", "life after ex", etc.) The remaining 3/4 of the book consists of letters and brief stories of the author's many avoidances of weird would-be boyfriends.

4.0 out of 5 stars New on the dating scene, October 25, 2004

I was in a relationship for 8 yrs! And out for 1. I feel like a bear coming out of hibernation. I was taking this dating thing waaay too seriously so a friend gave me a copy of "It's not me, It's YOU!" and told me to lighten up! Soooo glad she did. Now it all seems less overwhelming.

Long live perspective even tho it's always in such short supply. It seems like the author should be 110 yrs old to have this much savvy--sure looks good forher age ig she is! This book has real wisdom packaged in an easy-to-swallow fuzzy, purple cover and you know what they say: don't judge a book by it's cover. Have a good read.

This book is of very limited help if you're in the aftermath of a breakup. It's a little too silly and I found it annoying. I found "Don't Call that Man" and "The Girlfriend's Guide to Breaking Up" to be MUCH more helpful. Check them out!

Sometimes you just have to hear the gawd's honest truth. But how often do you hear it in a way that makes you laugh and go, yeah, right! "He's just not that into you" can only take you so far. There's more to it than that and this books takes it that step further and makes it fun!

Reading this book is like being out having coffee with a good friend. She's so real, guess she's been there(?). Anyway, liked it a lot. Getting it as gifts for a few unfortunate friends :( or :) bcse there's this book to help them thru it. Yeah.

Like a 24-hr emergency crisis friend. When you get nutty and think about calling your ex call up these pages. It will reboot your brain while your heart calms down. Breaking up stinks. This book makes it a little less stink-a-luscious.

Everyone gets dumped--universal love in a way; the part of love that stinks! Nice to have someone tell it like it is so you don't feel so freaky when going thru the 12 trillion self eroding emotions. It's good for many laughs which heals the wounds and tames the bitter in us all. I've bought 3 extra copies for friends in precarious relationships.
