Reviewed by Sabrina Williams,
This review is from: If It's Not One Thing, It's Your Mother (Paperback)
In "If It's Not One Thing, It's Your Mother", stand-up comedian Anita Renfroe approaches the mother-daughter relationship with an essense of realism and a generous dose of comedy. Her ability to find humor and wisdom in any situation gives the reader a glimmer of hope when lamenting the dynamics of their own family unit. While not as hard-edged or blunt, fans of Laurie Notaro's series of books will be familiar with this writing style and enjoy Renfroe's brand of humor. Her Christian overtone is reserved and respectful, without appearing saccharine or ingenous.
This collection of quips about the fundamental relationships between mothers and daughters opens with the author's own disclaimer. "I am not a psychologist," she warns on page 12. "Anything said in this book that sounds the least bit psychological, I probably made it up." Residing in the same household with her mother and her daughter, she likens herself to a Manwich and calls herself a "Momwich." Male readers will enjoy seeing the world from a woman's perspective and take with them valuable tips for making their own lives easier. Female readers will nod along with Renfroe's comical insight. Everyone will recognize a bit of themselves in the Renfroe family and find themselves laughing at their own idiosyncracies.

If you want that question answered, then read this book. Among other things, Anita encourages us to find humor and acceptance in things we cannot change... especially with our mothers and/or daughters!
Even if you have a great relationship with your mother, this is a great book that refuses to let you put it down!

Anita once again has hit home with another great read. Not only is this book funny but it is true and filled with great insights and helps in understanding your own family dynamics. Having lost my mother just before purchasing this book, it was refreshing and a treasure to see how her life is still revealed through her daughters and grand-daughters. I pray I leave a leagacy to my girls that is just as wonderful. You have to read this book! Laugh and cry, or, laugh until you cry, either way you will enjoy Anita Renfroe's take on life.

I received my first Renfroe book as a gift and loved it so much I had to get this one too. Her quirky sense of humor, combined with her love of God and her ability to get straight to the heart of a matter, makes this a hilarious yet very insightful look into mother-daughter dynamics. Very useful practical information with just the right "spoonful of sugar" to make it fun to take!

Great author and price, but book was in less-than-desirable shape to give as a gift even though advertised as new and unused.

This book is very insightful; funny, but serious as well. She sheds a lot of light on good, not-so-good, and "other" relationships between mothers and daughters. And she has good things to say about "other mothers" as well as biological mothers.

What can I say? Once again Anita Renfroe splits my side with her talents of being able to address day-to-day challenges with her "laugh out loud" wit and humor. Excellent, easy read! Thanks, Anita, for another great book!
