Book Description

April 9, 1991
Finally, some good news about eating disorders! For the millions of Americans who suffer from the mystifying starvation and binge disorders known as anorexia and bulimia, Russell Marx, M.D., offers a revolutionary new treatment approach directed to both sufferers and their families. Until now, some treatment methods for these conditions have concentrated on their psychological causes--with only limited success. Dr. Marx now presents a proven biological and psychological approach that also treats the underlying medical causes of eating disorders with a state-of-the-art combination of educational, behavioral, drug and cognitive therapies. With knowledge and compassion that come from years of experience, "It's Not Your Fault" defines these disorders, identifies those people who are at special risk, lists the warning signs, explores their causes and answers questions that everyone has about eating disorders.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

YA-- An approach to eating disorders that covers their medical causes, along with providing information about education, long-term behavior modification, and drug treatment. Marx discusses the complex subjects of anorexia and bulimia in a relaxed, informative style. Information on other lesser-known disorders is also included. He intersperses personal stories with the facts to better illustrate the problems patients face and the types of treatment prescribed. He presents the latest health information on control and management techniques for diet as well as a list of questions to be answered in determining if a serious disorder is present. The appendix has an up-to-date bibliography of current materials and a list of addresses and telephone numbers for national organizations. A detailed, thorough, and accessible resource. --Pat Royal, Crossland High School, Camp Springs, MD
