Deciding how to rate this book is hard for me. My daughter is entering the home stretch of her `potty training week' and this book has become a staple in our household. As far as teaching her the importance of potty training and how `easy' it can be, this worked rather well. It's short, simple and easy to grasp. My daughter has become obsessed with the book, asking me to read it to her every time she sits on the toilet. I think certain aspects of the book helped her realize why she shouldn't want to be wet or dirty ("it's yucky") and that aided in her becoming determined to sit on the potty.

But then there is that dreaded button.

One of the main reasons my daughter loves this book is for that obnoxious button at the bottom of the book that makes a flushing noise. Yes, it is wholly obnoxious. It flushes for what feels like forever while a little girl laughs one of the most painfully annoying laughs I've ever heard. There are two times in the book when the words "flush, flush, flush" are printed and at both times my little angle demands to press the button.

If I didn't have to read this book twenty times a day I'd be okay with it, but after the third time I'm ready to flush this thing down the toilet!

So, if you are looking for a book that will help influence your young one in the direction of the pearly throne, this one will do the trick BUT beware of the dreaded button. It may be rather cute the first time you hear it, but the first will not be the last, and it grows old very, very quickly.

My daughter is almost 2 and loves this book! She started doing more on the potty after we gave it to her and loves the line about "being a big girl now." It's true that the sound is loud and somewhat annoying, but if you can get your child potty trained, who cares?! You can use it as a "special story" that you only allow your child to read and push the button when using the toilet. We use a potty seat on our adult sized toilet, so this book is perfect for that. If you are training with a small potty, I would probably choose something else. My daughter has never been scared of using the potty this way. She was excited about doing what mommy does, and it elminates a transition step in the training process. That is why we chose to use this method rather than the little training potties. It has worked well for us. Other than the noise, the only thing I did not like was the line about being afraid to flush the toilet. My daughter has never been afraid to flush, and I was afraid it would plant ideas into her head. It doesn't appear to have phased her though.

While talking to a young lady who was having problems potty training her son, she showed me a book that was a great help to her, which was this very book, but for little boys. My granddaughter is having a hard time understanding the concept of going on the potty so I thought this would be the solution to help her. Since I live far away I could not see the results, but from what my daughter tells me she loves the little book, but is not quite getting the concept of doing what the book is teaching! She is almost two. To evaluate the book as far as its effectiveness is concerned is not possible at this point. There is no doubt in my mind that it is a good idea and a creative way to go about teaching it. We know as parents that all children are so different, so that what works with one may not work for another.

My daughter is two and a half, and this book was sent to her as a gift from her Mamaw (my mother). She likes to read it two or three times every day, and while it isn't helping her to quite grasp the concept of going on the potty (she won't continue to sit on it for long enough to do her business) she has learned to recognize key words in the book because of the repetition of words such as "flush" and "toilet." An unexpected but serendipitous consequence of the book!

She also loves to press the button that makes the toilet flush sound. It may annoy her Momma and Daddy but she is enjoying the book a great deal and I hope that eventually it will become a potty time favorite for helping her learn.

I was looking for a book to get my daughter interested in the potty, this book basically tells about how you shouldn't be afraid of the flush my daughter has never been afraid of the flush, so I don't read her the book because I don't want her to start thinking she should be afraid of this, if that is a problem for your daughter this might be the book for you.

I used the boy version of this book and my son was potty-trained in no time. I had been working with him for several weeks with little progress before I stumbled upon this gem. I kept it in the bathroom and each time I took him to the toilet, I would read it to him. (Since we kept it in the bathroom, we did not read it unless we were trying to potty.) He loved the flushing button. As other reviewers have stated, the sound can be annoying -- but not as annoying as having to change dirty diapers! I have recommended this book to all my friends with little ones!

After reading this book to my daugther, she finally worked up the courage to use the toilet. The book was a HUGE success. We read it every night still and she uses the potty more and more each day.

The button on the book is very loud, so I taped it up to soften the sound a bit, but other than that I am so glad I got this. It's definitely paid off for us!
