2.0 out of 5 stars Great voice, lousy material
Having just been blown away by Ms. Eder on a PBS special, I was eager to listen to one of her albums. I was disappointed, unfortunately, with "It's Time." Having the composer Frank Wildhorn for a husband has, in my opinion, acted as both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because it has provided her with an instant audience, a curse because she's saddled...

...and one of the best pop albums EVER. A lesser artist would be spreading herself too thin with the wide variety of styles on this album, but not this singer. From the Sinatra-esque "It's Time" to the zany novelty of "Don't Ask Me Why" or the simple, heartbreaking "Candle in the Window", Eder has the pipes and the actor's instinct to make it all work. All of the above were penned by LE's husband, composer Frank Wildhorn and lyricist Jack Murphy and are instant standards, great melodies wedded to ingenious words. Although their later works have started to sound oddly similar to one another, this is Wildhorn-Murphy at their most inspired, anyone saying otherwise must be impossible to please. And fortunately, they also had the good sense to round this CD out with material from other sources: a perfect "Over the Rainbow" that reveres Judy Garland without imitating her and an utterly amazing rendition of "Unusual Way" which starts out in a mournful mezzo and soars up into some uncharted soprano heaven. "How DOES she DO that?" a classical voice teacher once asked me. Her voice is that miraculous. I don't know what criteria or push the Grammy's would have needed to have considered this for a best album nomination when it came out, but it definitely deserved it. It easily ranks with the best of Streisand and surpasses everybody else. I could go on and on, so just be smart and BUY IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Move over Streisand!, February 23, 2000

If you thought Streisand was good, get prepared to hear great! I had the privilege of seeing and hearing Linda Eder in Jekyll and Hyde before it hit Broadway. Wow! I was amazed at this absolutely beautiful voice and talent. I became an instant fan. I own all of her CDs and this is my favorite, other than the soundtrack of Jekyll and Hyde. You will be blown away by her performance of Man of La Mancha. That song plus Over the Rainbow and Someone Like You is enough to buy this CD, but being the special entertainer she is, Linda Eder delivers on every song. If you are a Linda Eder fan or just getting to know her, this is the CD you should own!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a voice!, January 11, 2007

It's Time gives Linda Eder the opportunity to show her amazing octave range. The title song alone is worth the purchase price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Linda Eder= DIVA, March 5, 2000
This review is from: It's Time (Audio CD)
I first heard Linda sing "Vienna" on ROSIE and was blown away at what I heard. Instantly I purchased this cd out of curiosity to find out, Who is Linda Eder? Well needless to say I was beyond excited as to what I heard. The voice, the songs...seriously are incredible. What I really liked about the cd was the fact that I did not know of a lot of these songs, but each one captivated me. The quality of Linda's voice, and how she brings such vivid life to the lyrics is truly amazing. A lot of the songs were written by her talented husband. Her "Man of La Mancha" is simply wonderful, "Big Time" is stuck in my head! This is truly one of the Best cd's I own. Each song gives me that "favorite song" feeling. I took a chance on liking this cd and have gotten back way more than I expected. This cd is a "must have" and Simply said, Linda Eder is a DIVA

Linda Eder is a great voice for a new generation. First coming to many people's attention in Jekyll & Hyde, she'll be the person we go to venues to hear for many years to come.

"I Want More" is the anthem for anyone whose partner ever let romance drift from a love relationship. Sometimes you need to ask for what you want and need.

"Big Time" is a tongue-in-cheek view of reality for many female entertainers - what does it really take to get to the top (and what do you find when you get there...?).

If you like women with powerful voices and a way with a lyric, you'll definitely enjoy this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, June 11, 2000
This review is from: It's Time (Audio CD)
That's the one word that for me sums up the amazing voice of Linda Eder. Of course there are some others: glowing, polished, emotional, loud, radiant, beautiful, startling, loud, passionate, rich, breathtaking, loud. Did I mention loud? Her voice just screams for attention. You have to listen. It's almost hypnotic. This is my favorite of her four main albums. It showcases an amazingly high, long note on the first track, "It's Time," which sounds as though it could have easily been written fifty years ago. "I Want More" is fast paced, yet pleading. The next one is softer and quieter. Anyone can relate to the fourth track, "Don't Ask Me Why" The third one, "Over the Rainbow" is the well-known Judy Garland standard, but with a lush, haunting new arrangement. "Big Time" is one of those tracks where the name says it all. It's a big time song about a big time subject and with some big time vocals. "When Autumn Comes," as Eder herself says, paints a mental picture with it's exquisite melody and evocative lyrics. Then there's the brash, bombastic (well, technically, I don't know what bombastic means, but it sounded right) "I, Don Quixote." That one'll blow you away. "I Don't Know How to Say Goodbye" is a quiet, very sad song about learning to let go. "Candle in the Window" is another tear-jerker from Linda's husband Frank's broadway show, "The Civil War." I'd be lying if I didn't say I didn't care for "The Last Tango." It has beautiful instrumentals though. "Unusual Way" is another standout. The belted lyric segues into the piercing, crescendo lilts towards the end of the song. "Only Love" is a beautiful song from yet another of Wildhorn's shows "The Scarlet Pimpernel." I'm not big on broadway, so I'm not really sure if the song was included in the current production. "The Children of Eve" has a wonderful message to offer in it's repetetive ending chorus if you listen closely. "Something to Believe In" is another 'bombastic' little number, ending in some of the highest notes, I would suppose a singer has ever recorded without going into crescendo. And then there's the last song, "Someone Like You" from Wildhorn's "Jekyll & Hyde." That is one heck of a song. And that last "I'd feel so a-li-i-i-i-i-i-i-ive!" Well, if that doesn't give you chills nothing will. All these beautiful songs, that indescribable voice, and one of the sexiest faces I've ever seen on a woman. Those squinting eyes, those flaring nostrils, those velvet lips. . .needless to say, she's a very nice looking person, gentlemen, if you know what I mean. This lady's going to go far.

5.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't get any better than this!, February 18, 2000
This review is from: It's Time (Audio CD)
Memorable (if largely unfamiliar) music, beautifully orchestrated and performed; sophisticated lyrics worthy of Cole Porter or Stephen Sondheim; and a solo voice so pure and beautiful that it can barely be believed. Put these together, surround them with technical recording perfection, and you have a sensational feast for the soul! Linda Eder's "It's Time" comes immediately to mind.

The music in this CD is hard to classify, but it does not belong in the "background music" or even the "easy listening" genre - it's too good for that in every respect: music, lyrics, and phrasing. It has only one song ("Over the Rainbow")which most listeners will recognize. The other 15 tracks will need to be "studied" in the same sense that a beautiful but unfamiliar poem does. The producers have thoughtfully included with the CD a copy of the lyrics plus a brief paragraph explaining the song's background. Once the listener retreats to a private place and repeats the lyrics silently while listening carefully to the music (and that VOICE) a couple of times, he/she will be hooked and will very likely stay that way.

It takes a brave soul to buy a CD with a presently little-known singer (but hang on folks!), an orchestra which apparently has no name, and only one song that's familiar. But hey...take a chance!

5.0 out of 5 stars Linda's voice is golden, September 10, 2002

Linda Eder is the most fabolous singer ever!! She has the most natural talent that anyone could have. People have compared her with the great Barbra Streisand, as it should be. I saw her live in Jekyll and Hyde and she was amazing. THis album is the best one she has out because it has a little bit of everthing. It has your big broadway ballads, more upbeat big band songs, and more! Songs like "Man of La mancha" shows her vocal range;not only does she have a powerful middle range, but she can reach the high notes also. "Don't ask me why?" is one of the funnier jazzier songs that is funny and talks about how fate can interfere with life. Her version of "Over the Rainbow" is great; this version is much slower and higher. Although no one can sing it like Judy Garland this is a close second. "Candle in the Window" is a precious song that I think everyone can connect with. "I'm afraid it must be love" is the Frank Sinatra like song and she pulls it off magnificantly. She can sing anything and it sounds wonderful. If you buy only one album, it should be this one. I promise you won't be disapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars IT'S TIME YOU DISCOVERED LINDA EDER, September 18, 2007
This review is from: It's Time (Audio CD)
I received "It's Time" as a gift from my oldest son....and honestly, after listening to Ms. Eder I will unequivocally state that this is one of the best gifts I have received in a long, long time. This talented, vivacious lady has a set of pipes that can definitely compete with the Dion's, Streisands, and Garlands and, in some instances, surpass their best efforts.

Her performance on this CD is spectacular, with some numbers projecting an electrifying sensuality that vicariously transports the listener to an intimate jazz club back in the days when Frank, Tony and Ella were the reigning royalty. Other numbers shift tempo and literally sweep you along with an energy and excitement reminiscent of the internal fireworks you feel while sitting in the audience enjoying the "big musical number" of your favorite Broadway show.

If it sounds to you like I'm "gushing" praise all I can say is, buy this CD and decide for yourself whether or not Linda Eder is one gifted performer.
