4.0 out of 5 stars Two often-overlooked Teddy Pendergrass albums now on CD.
Buy this CD while you still can as it contains two of Teddy's best yet mostly-forgotten albums. The 1981-issued "It's Time For Love" contains some of Teddy's smoothest soul ballads with "She's Over Me", "Nine Times Out Of Ten" and the title track being simply unmissable. On the other hand, the 1982-released "This One's For You" was the first of two studio albums consisting of previously unreleased tracks that Philadelphia International issued after Teddy's near-fatal car accident. This 2-CD set brings you two fine Teddy Pendergrass albums at a very good price- buy it now!

3.0 out of 5 stars The Bonus Is Two Album,Neither Of Which Are Perfect, January 21, 2010
This review is from: It's Time for Love / This One's for You (Audio CD)
The main reason that this album didn't earn more stars in my book is because, considering who this is I found that between both of these two albums only contained a small handful of songs that maintained any interested to me. One of the reasons for that is the large amount of samey sounding Philly ballads here that don't extend to any big degree on anything Teddy hadn't done before. The first album presented here It's time for love is the final album before his car accident. It's a pretty coherant album all round but it's also uneven and hardly qualifies as one of his best releases. "Nine Times Out Of Ten" is a well sung tune of course but the production is a little bit on the weak side. "Keep On Lovin' Me" is one of the best songs on the album, with some great reverbed drums and keyboards along with being a very well done tune. The title song is a nice midtempo rhythmic ballad that really does stand out along with the keyboard textured funk/blues/disco hybrid "I Can't Leave Your Love Alone". As with the just post accident albumThis One's For You the trouble with the album has to do with uneven material and with this second album in the collection it's even more so as....the material is deliberately uneven already because it's pared together from unreleased material from different times in Teddy's solo career thus far. "I Can't Win For Losing" is a great Philly variation on synth funk again,a unique hybrid for sure however songs like "Loving You Was Good" and "The Gift Of Life" sound mildly like retreads. The title track, his take on a Barry Manilow song from an album with...the same name actually betters Barry's with the strong gospel feel and the very witty spoken intro. "It's Up To You (What You Do With Your Life)" with it's highly gospel inflected Philly dance style sounds ripped right from the sessions of a latter day album Teddy did with the Bluenotes but is an easy highlite. Neither of these albums present Teddy doing anything overly new or innovative but they're rarities that were gladly put out there for lovers of his music and contain some positive moments.
