5 Stars for "It's Time" 1 Star for the "Special Edition",
By Scotington (Dorchester, MA USA) - See all my reviews

Fisrt let me state that I am a Michael Bublé fan. He is a great singer and the music on this disc is right on par with his first release, evoking the same feelings and sung with his usual style and class. This disc is worthy of 5 stars but it gets one star because of the "Special Eition" crap.
I've purchased everything Michael has released, sans "Totally Bublé" which he publicly appologizes for. Considering his feelings about that disk, I and am amazed that he has allowed his record label to put his name on this "Special Edition". The only word that comes to mind is "greed". What kind of "poster" is folded into a 5" square so that it fits into a CD package? I buy all my art folded up into a square, doesn't everyone? The poster would be a nice touch if it were included free with the standard release, as numerous other artists have done. To charge $7 extra for a "poster" and 2 additional songs that would easily fit on the standard disc is a joke. The "Special Edition" is a sell out, and is an insult to any fan. The 2 extra songs are must haves, but as much as I want them, I refuse to fall for this marketing gimmick. Instead I am walking away with the sub standard "regular" version, feeling hurt that he has chosen to deny me, and many of his fans the pleasure of listening to some of his beautiful music simply because we can't spend $20 for this so called "Special Edition". I'm sorry Michael, but if you've recorded the songs - please give them to your fans. Don't pull this crap. Signed, a dissapointed fan.

"two bonus tracks are worth the price ~ Buble",
This review is from: It's Time (Audio CD)
Pop vocalist of the millennium is Michael Buble, the Vancouver crooner with his latest release "It's Time" [Special Deluxe Edition], arriving near the eve Valentine's Day Buble with new material and some vintage standards...featuring an unforgettable youthful style that takes you back to the '40s, '50s and '60s...listening to every tune on this album brings back memories of Nat King Cole (one of my favorite singers of all time), Bing Crosby, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra as they were crooning favorite standards of the day...he is a cross between James Dean and Elvis Presley in appearance, but has the style and ability of Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin...Michael has the uncanny ability to nail each track with his signature style and making it his own.
Sit back and let's take a listen to the selections on this guaranteed winner..."FEELING GOOD", wonderful arrangement by David Foster, as Buble sings the orchestrated brass gives off a James Bond flavor and you're waiting for your drink...shaken not stirred..."A FOGGY DAY (In London Town)", great arrangement by Bill Holman on this classic George & Ira Gershwin tune, swingin' big band is here and alive..."YOU DON'T KNOW ME", composed and recorded by Eddy Arnold, later performed by Jerry Vale and Ray Charles, always a favorite of my wife Judy, her reaction to Michael's recording is the best yet..."QUANDO, QUANDO, QUANDO", very big hit for Englebert Humperdinck, just like the late Bing Crosby, Buble has more fun with duets and it shows with Nelly Furtado, latin arrangement by David Foster is contagious..."HOME", composed by Michael Buble, arranged by David Foster and Bill Ross is the most requested song from this album on the airwaves..."CAN'T BUY ME LOVE", jazzy arrangement by John Clayton Jr and David Foster, more than a toe-tapper, as Buble swings with a vengence..."THE MORE I SEE YOU", arranger John Clayton Jr. shows you why the late Billy May with Capitol Records was the greatest arranger for the label, Buble swings this one in the Sinatra style and you're loving every minute of it..."SAVE THE LAST DANCE FOR ME", with a rumba beat the tempo is close to the Drifters classic arrangement, only better and Michael is having a ball..."TRY A LITTLE TENDERNESS", dim the lights and pour your favorite beverage, with your favorite partner this is a lush arrangement by David Foster and Bill Ross, the lyrics tell the whole story..."HOW SWEET IT IS", the classic Motown hit from yesteryear with swingin' brass and harmonica that arranger John Clayton Jr. provides for Buble to make his entrance groove..."SONG FOR YOU", the great Leon Russell's hit, arranged by David Foster and Bill Ross with guest artist Chris Botti on trumpet is completely mesmerizing ..."I'VE GOT YOU UNDER MY SKIN", look out Ole Blues Eyes, cause the Vancouver crooner is on the loose with the one and only Nelson Riddle arrangement orchestrated by Sammy Nestico courtesy of Paul Anka, not bad company for Michael to be in..."YOU AND I", composer Stevie Wonder arranged by David Foster and Jeremy Lubbock brings a tear to your eye as Michael pours his heart out, along with heartfelt lyrics and brings it home, just listen quietly and see if you don't agree. The two bonus tracks are worth the package price..."DREAM A LITTLE DREAM OF ME", opening with Brian Green on guitar as the entire orchestra comes in with a killer arrangement by Mort Lindsey, Michael hits the mark a perfect bullseye with a one breath long note ending..."MACK THE KNIFE", arranger Sammy Nestico pulls out all the stops with this outstanding rendition of the late Bobby Darin's signature song, Buble has his finger on the pulse of this Kurt Weill tune and takes it to another level..."Lookout, ole Mikie is back"...to the collector of Michael's music this is definitely a wanting to own since yesterday. My wife and I were fortunate enough to see Michael in a St. Louis concert, met him back stage...might add this young man made a very positive impression on all who attended that night's show...he's a first class guy and has everything going for him...couldn't happen to a nicer person...it's like second nature with his natural ability to vocalize and be a crowd pleaser is pure magic...shows why Buble has the the stuff stars are made of...he's the hottest property in the genre of "American Standards" today...as Michael warns his band, "get ready it's about to start all over again"...climb aboard this musical merry-go-round, you'll never regret it...Good Luck, Michael! Long anticipated, lotta hoopla from David Foster promising even a much better release then his 1st and follow up cd's. Best thing (for me) is his duet on "quando quando" The album is quite good and well put together but still lacks that special sound he managed to capture with his 1st release. This one is simply just a nice record, something you would listen to during a small diner party, as background music. But, to say exceptional, not this one. Perhaps his next release. A dvd release of the UK concert would be nice (he included some of these songs on it). Seeing it would add that special "punch" to it. Oh well. I purchased the special edition, I've heard better rendations of Mack the Knife" by others. I do not understand why the 2 bonus songs were not included with the regular release as these 2 rendations, really, are not that special and do not warrant the extra pricing.

It's Time You Listen To Michael Bublé,
By
This review is from: It's Time (Audio CD)
I first heard of Michael Bublé from a friend of mine and I was immediately hooked and had to go out and buy this CD. His style is at once a throwback and completely new. He evokes Sinatra on "A Foggy Day," " Save The Last Dance For Me" is a swinging number that always make me get up to dance and "Home" is just beautiful. This is a stronger, more assured album from his first release.
His cover of "Can't Buy me Love" is so much fun and always turns heads when I play it at the office. If you're looking to hear a male vocalist with that doesn't sound like he's been sucking in helium or if you are just looking to hear someone who can really sing and doesn't need to scream at an audience to prove it, you owe it to yourself to check out Michael Bublé. In the years to come he is sure to become a major force in music.

Bublé'ng over with talent,
By
This review is from: It's Time (Audio CD)
Sorry, yet another bad pun. Anyway, Michael Bublé appears to have had a long time coming, because his debut self-titled album came out two years ago and seemed to go virtually unnoticed. I guess in this day and age, it's a little difficult for a jazz singer to compete with all the hip-hop and hard rock dominating the charts. But thanks to critical acclaim, he's doing much better with his second studio album, It's Time.
I didn't hear his first album, so I'm not sure if he's always been a cover artist, but at any rate, he does an excellent job with the songs on here. I don't know if I'd necessarily say that these remakes are just as good as the originals, but Michael turns them into great songs in their own right. R&B classics like Stevie Wonder's "You and I" and Leon Russell's "Song For You" get wonderful makeovers. "How Sweet It Is" is also good; and Nelly Furtado lends a helping hand in "Quando, Quando, Quando" (it's especially refreshing to hear her because I think most people forgot about her second album, even though it went gold). Another good track is "Feeling Good", which will definitely have you doing just that. And while some people might be tired of hearing covers of the Beatles' "Can't Buy Me Love", you can't deny the greatness of Michael's version. Every song on this album is great, to be honest with you. Whether you're a listener of jazz or just plain great music, it's time to pick up Michael Bublé's album. Anthony Rupert

This is my 1st Michael Buble CD. Not only does Michael have an amazing voice to listen to but the band behind him is just as amazing. The band can take 50% of the credit for this being such a great album to listen to. Michael knows how to put feeling into his voice that makes you think he is singing directly to you. If you like music to swoon to, you will love this. His voice is a cross between Frank Sinatra and Frankie Avalon.

Great Interpretations and Arrangements of Standards and a Great Voice!,
By
This review is from: It's Time (Audio CD)
My wife who seldom buys cds suddenly buys this cd one day. I'm naturally intriqued and when I saw the good looking guy on the cover I thought right away, great, another one of those albums, a good-looking singer singing other people's stuff just like the endless numbers of boy-bands that keep coming out these days.
Then I heard the cd and I was blown away by first the great voice and then by the great Gattica/Foster arrangements. The sound is very well produced and as I'm a great Chicago fan, I really loved the arrangements on almost all the songs except perhaps "How Sweet it is" which I feel didn't really improve upon the original. My wife bought the made in Singapore version and so I didn't have to pay $20 bucks for this and so I don't have as many gripes as some of the reviewers here about the price but I have to say that any cd that makes my wife happy, makes me happy too. Great voice, great sound, great album!

This Edition Found at Starbucks...Amazing Album,
By Bubbles (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: It's Time (Audio CD)
I've read the negative reviews by people who have bought this special edition and didn't like paying extra for a poster and just two songs. However, if you get this album at Starbucks, you get the same tracks plus "Come Fly With Me" for less than $20. Even if you cannot pick it up at a Starbucks, this special edition is worth the price for the special tracks alone.
Michael Buble's previous albums were great in their own right but "It's Time" shows just how much better he has gotten with age and after each album. Buble's vocals are crisper here and the music itself doesn't drown out his vocals. The album opens beautifully with "Feeling Good", a song that starts off lightly with Buble's vocals and light violins in the back...the lyrics of course are great and Buble sings with such passion. As the song continues, it takes on a feel that is very sensual and just makes you want to dance. "A Foggy Day (In London Town)" is very peppy to say the least but Buble tackles this classic impressively. "You Don't Know Me" is a great showcase of Buble's range and versatility. "Quando Quando" is great with its jazzy feel and the duet with Nelly Furtado just makes it even better and more charged. "Home" has a semi-country feel to it that Buble hasn't tested until this point but he makes it work well. "Can't Buy Me Love" is definately Sinatra-esque but a good song in its own right. "The More I See You" follows in a great loud but jazzy fashion. "Save the Last Dance for Me" makes me want to dance the rumba and it's definately a fun song period...one of the best on the album. "Try a Little Tenderness" is done superbly since Buble really sings the song tenderly and with such emotion. "How Sweet It Is"...what can I say but this is a different rendition that only Buble could pull off. "Song For You" is a melancholy song but a song full of longing too that Buble really pours himself into. "I've Got You Under My Skin" is the type of song that you might hear at a jazz club or martini bar...great to wind down to and enjoy. "You and I" is a timeless classic first performed by Stevie Wonder, but perfected on this album by Michael Buble. The song is definately one dedicated to the love of someone's life, but Buble makes it so elegant and dreamy like (two things true love really is). This is perhaps the crowning achievement of "It's Time" and is worth the price of the regular edition of "It's Time." Now to the special edition songs..."Dream a Little Dream" is done so well by Buble with the inflections of his voice placed perfectly. "Mack the Knife" is a great rendition of a Sinatra classic and Buble does it justice. Finally, the Starbucks special edition includes "Come Fly With Me" and is a great remake and what made Buble a hit in the music world. This is a great album and very well-crafted...the special edition is worth the price for the extra tracks, "Dream a Little Dream" and "Mack the Knife". One of the better albums of the millenium and definately shows how talented Michael Buble truly is. |
