Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

These two books answer many of the questions pregnant women are likely to ask about the choices facing them. They give detailed information about prenatal care and childbirth, often focusing on possible effects on the baby. Both urge women to make informed choices in their pregnancies rather than unquestioningly accept decisions made by others. Kitzinger, a leading childbirth educator and author, is herself the mother of five daughters. Her tone is especially appealing to women because of her understanding of the emotions surrounding pregnancy and childbirth. Kitzinger argues that medical intervention often is not necessary, but her attitude is not dogmatic. Lauersen, an obstetrician, presents a more conventional approach that includes close attention by a physician and fuller use of modern medical practices. But he believes in giving patients lots of information and a wide range of options. He covers subjects not addressed in other books, such as the safety of airport scanners, as well as pre-pregnancy considerations, such as fertility and pregnancy over 35. Both these books are highly recommended. Barbara Carroll, M.L.S., Eau Claire, Wis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ecellent - a must have!, June 4, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: It's Your Pregnancy (Paperback)
This book is one of the best pregnancy books I've read. It's written in a question & answer format by an obgyn. Dr Niels Laureson has written other books aimed at women, and this one must be added to any pregnant woman's library.

The questions in his book come directly from his patients. He answers them in a friendly, informative, & non-judgemental way. He stresses the fact that a pregnant woman is the one who should be in charge of her birth experience, & I find that refreshing.

The questions in the book run the course from the mundane to the more serious. It's a wonderful tool to have, & has already put my mind at ease
