5.0 out of 5 stars Hellloooo...
This is a great CD. Try and buy even one of these remixes on vinyl and you'll pay at least as much. (I know it sounds wacky, but some of us SEEK vinyl) The main reason I'm writing this review though is that none of the other reviewers remark on the definite house classic on this album: Leash Called Love. 10 years later, this will still get people on the floor.

3.0 out of 5 stars Infinitely forgetable
I remember when this CD first came out. I knew right then that the Sugarcubes were breaking up. I doubt they had much input into which mixes went on the CD. I figured they were signed for a four-album deal, and this was their filler album to just slap something out there to be done with it.

This CD has been relegated to an old cardboard box in the basement. There...

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious Remix, July 24, 2001

Take the poppy sounds of the Sugarcubes and mix them up, and out will come the exciting sounds of It's It. Featuring remixes of popular songs off of other Sugarcubes album, It's It is probably a decent place for a Bjork fan to start sampling her previous work. The album can be a bit uneven, with some of the remixes being a lot more interesting than others, but the good more than make up for the bad, and it all adds up to a top-notch album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cartoon-like joy keeps working and able to be re-born!, October 21, 2003
This review is from: Itsit (Audio CD)
Maybe a mandatory contract thing, maybe no more then a try from the recording company to get some money from the (like some popular musical magazine would say) ¨coolest¨ not-best-seller pop rockers of the last 2 decades (the rest is mine ;-P ), but the fact is that they kept that ¨joy¨ they brought us in her recently released last album. The remixes here are funny and cool, and the remixers re-criated some part of the song with their interesting new arrangements, specially for the ¨Birthday¨ versions (I'm thinking now more of the Justin Robertson version) and the re-make of ¨Regina¨ by themselves. Marius DeVries who co-produced and mixed some of the forthcoming Björk solo hits in the 90s revisited ¨Pump¨ very functionally and the only very commercial, poor mixes here are those made by Tony Humphries, although you can dance a lot with them! Anyway all the mixes here can heard (and the reworks on ¨Planet¨, ¨Gold¨ and ¨Motorcrash¨ are specially strong) in a unique sequence. You're gonna have a blast and lastimate the end of this incredible cartoon-like band.

This CD is GREAT! I listen to it every day! Birthday & Mother are excellent. Very up beat and creative. If you listen to Bjork you will love this album. It is better than any other sugarcubes album I have heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars freaky sparkly UPtempo beats, August 8, 2000

Bjork's silly, hypnotic chanting and the Sugarcubes' crazed electronic funk have been remixed here by Todd Terry, Tony Humphries, and others. This disc is a collection of the Sugarcubes' best made better and even more fun; 13 tracks shined to a brilliantly upbeat luster without loosing the slightly sinister edge. The "Hit" Sweet & Low mix alone is worth the price. The "Gold" remix is frenetic, manic, and suberbly catchy. Perfect ecstatic housework music. Buy It's It on a gray day.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'It' It' the Sugarcubes 'Mixed Up', September 11, 1999
This review is from: Itsit (Audio CD)
It's It from the SUGARCUBES is second best remix album of all time just behind the CURE's 1990 remix album "Mixed Up". Just as Robert Smith excites you with the extended bits Björk vocals do the same. With Mark Saunders brilliant work on the Cure's 'A Forest' (Tree Mix) from Mixed Up is repeated on the remix of 'Mama'. Other great productions on 'It's It' include Todd Terry's massive Club remix of 'Gold' also contains remixes from Justin Robertson Aka. Lionrock, Byran 'New' Chuck, Dom T. and long time producer/mixer to Björk - Marius De Vries. A great party album just play it after the Cure's 'Mixed Up'. a 5 star must. Highlights - Birthday (Justin Robertson 12" Mix), Pump (Marius De Vries Mix), Hit (Tony Humphries Sweet & Low Mix) & Gold (Todd Terry Mix).

This CD has been relegated to an old cardboard box in the basement. There are few things memorable about it -- the remixes don't do the originals justice, quite unlike the remixes of Bjork's solo stuff.

2.0 out of 5 stars Some good, most horrible, July 16, 2003
This review is from: Itsit (Audio CD)
This CD is the very definition of the kind you should choose to download off the internet instead of wasting fifteen dollars on. Download them all, give them a listen, and then you'll probably delete most of them.

The worst has to be the Motorcrash remix - jesus, what a waste! I was excited about this track until I heard about - oh let's see - five seconds of it! It's just an instrumental techno track that sounds nothing like the original except near the end for about fifteen seconds. No vocals. Nothing much in this one at all.

The birthday remixes are pretty disapointing. It's a great song destroyed (twice!) by generic pop/techno beats. Sometimes they work and you'll catch yourself tapping your foot to the familiar birthday themes (heh) but overall they're worth just one listen. Unless you like the kind of music you can make on your little sister's twenty-five dollar keyboard.

On the bright side there are about five tracks worth keeping, maybe even a couple more if you're extremely forgiving. The standouts here are (IMO): Regina, Water, Mama and Pump. These remixes actually sound like something that would be on an album. Regina has always been a favorite of mine and even though I'm on the fence about Orn's barking (at times I love it, at times I cringe) I love the Lobster bit in Regina and it's a bit extended on this album. The sugarcubes themselves remixed this one and it makes you wonder why the hell the Sugarcubes didn't do the entire album. After all, thier remixes tend to be the best ones anyway. It makes you wonder how much creative control they really had. Oh, and the Pump remix is great! Better than the original IMO.

In summary, if you're a big Sugarcubes fan - get it or download it, some of the tracks are worthy of adding to your collection. But if you're tired of wasting money on mystery remix albums by your favorite artists then this album is, unfortunately, no exception. It's probably exactly how you'd expect it to be, actually. Gosh darn it.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a disappointment!, June 16, 2003
This review is from: Itsit (Audio CD)
I bought this when it first came out thinking, "Hey! Another Sugarcubes album!!" I love the Sugarcubes. (I'm not a big fan of Bjork's solo stuff since I don't think the musicians on her solo efforts have the creativity of the Sugarcubes members.) I listened to It's It and thought, "What is this junk?!!!" I know these are remixes, but the songs aren't even recognizable. They could have put any Sugarcubes title to any of these songs, and no one would have known the difference. The only song that you can recognize as a remix is "Regina" which was remixed by the Sugarcubes themselves. I listened to this album over and over thinking maybe it will grow on me. A couple tunes are kind of catchy, but other than that--yuck. I haven't listened to this thing in years. It's now collecting dust... Unless you feel you have to have absolutely everything from the Sugarcubes, don't bother with this mess. Just stick with their first three albums and wish they were still together.

Anyone who is a Bjork fan will love this CD. It contains a bunch of catchy, upbeat tunes like "Birthday". This is what pop music should sound like.
