I love this book. I started using it when my baby was 4 weeks old. After trying to do "mommy baby" yoga (using Baby Om) I decided it was much easier to do yoga with my baby separately from my own practice, though there is some overlap. Realistically, you have to stop a million times usually to wipe spit up, nurse, burp, etc, and for me it worked better to have all my attention on my baby. This book gives simple exercises, and great tips to make the experience enjoyable for baby. My baby has gotten more and more used to it the more we do it, and she is very calm, relaxed and peaceful when we do it now. I also like this book because it gives new exercises based on lots of developmental steps (head holding, almost sitting, etc) instead of just yoga for a baby - we all know that a 4 week old is much different from a 4 month old! I highly recommend this and plan to use it until my baby is 2!

What a fun and enjoyable workout for baby and mommy. My daugther is 14 months old, and feels so relaxed during the mellow poses, and laughs during the "happy baby" poses. You can tailor the session to meet your needs and the time of day.
This book is well-written and organized by baby's age from birth to 24 months. The author writes with a real love and respect for babies. Some of the poses are based on traditional yoga, and some are more like massage therapy. Most of the poses have a cute little song to go with them to keep the interest and attention of the baby.

This new release is outstanding in the field of infant bonding/baby yoga and I believe I have read or reviewed everything that's out there! I bought it for myself the day it was released and now I have to reorder as I'm giving my copy to a friend who is a new mom. Now I'm busing letting all my yoga teacher friends know about this book so they can incorporate it in their classes for children! For moms, Helen begins by setting the intention for your practice with your baby; choose one that fits you: "I am the perfect parent for my baby and my baby is perfect for me," "I remain relaxed as I notice and fulfill my baby's needs", I trust my intuition", or "Yoga is special for my baby and me." A quick scan of the chapter titles reveals that all early developental stages, from infant/newborns, head-holders, almost sitting, almost crawlers, tots, crawlers, almost walking, walkers, and yoga through childhood, are covered here. And as the introduction states "you...don't need any yoga experience to calm your baby and help him or her grown strong." Buy two, and pass one on to a friend, yoga teacher/studio, or your local library. Spread the word! You can't miss this wonderful opportunity to bond with your baby, adopted baby, foster baby, or grandbaby! 'All you need to do is breathe, love, and move!"

My boys are 15 months apart. When my second son was born, I was so busy with my older son and doing day to day things that I felt like I wasn't spending enough quality time with my newborn. I had been to a mommy and me yoga class with my older son but with no family in town I wasn't able to have someone watch him while I took my youngest to class. I searched online for books and videos that I could use at home and came across itsy bitsy yoga. It got the best reviews so I gave it a go. We have been doing itsy bitsy yoga for several months now and we love it! It relaxes my baby and me! Not to mention there are poses for dad and big brother to do with us! After reading this book and practicing I felt a lot more connected to my baby and I know that he feels the same way! He starts to smile and coo when we begin and it is the best feeling to have him stare up at me with such bright eyes and feel his body relax by my movements! I would recommend this book to any new mom or any mom that wants to feel more connected to their child and become a more confident mom while doing it!

I really did not want to like this book,

Okay, when I picked this book up, I rolled my eyes and thought, "oh brother." As if there aren't enough things for a baby to learn. But I was curious about the activities that the book would provide so I read through it anyway. I admit I was skeptical from the start. I'll tell you that this book is chock FULL of self promotion and I found that incredibly irritating. More than half of this book is just trying to convince the reader how wonderful yoga is, especially itsy bitsy yoga. Fine. I got it. Yoga is good. Itsy Bitsy Yoga is better. I do understand alot of yoga is the mind set (which is a topic beaten like a dead horse in this book), but I'm gonna tell you, I'm a mom of a toddler and a baby, and I just don't have time for the "tranquility" of yoga. I wish I did, but I don't. I have to be a pretty flexible lady. (no pun intended) I just want some activities I could personally do with my 9 month old and my 2 year old. When you get past all the cheerleading in the book, the activities are terrific. They are personal, and simple, and fun to do. And like the book states (over and over) you can spend as much time as you can afford with the "poses." The book itself is easy to follow and have some terrific tips to add along with the poses (like songs and variations, etc) They have plenty of photos, and the book is divided by major milestones instead of ages. At the end of each chapter is a quick reference of what poses work for whatever situation you are in. That is so handy. I really like this book as a reference guide. This book is meant for children from birth to 24 months, so I took a quick glance into the older tot chapters to see what they were like. When my oldest was between 1 and 2 years I don't think she would've copied what I did, nor would she have done any poses with encouragement, so I checked out how you were supposed to interact with the older set. Alot of the poses for the older kids still have parental interaction (which I think she would've liked) so I think this is a pretty realistic guide on what your child can and would want to do (since kids can be so different). There is nothing extreme (yoga-wise) in this book, and if you can't make your home have a nice tranquil atmosphere, alot of the poses can be done in a playful way. So as much as I don't like the writing in the book, I really liked the poses.

Special Time with Baby,
By
This review is from: Itsy Bitsy Yoga: Poses to Help Your Baby Sleep Longer, Digest Better, and Grow Stronger (Paperback)
This book is nice. It is easy to understand. User friendly. The best part about it is the time it has helped me to spend with my little one. Her eyes light up when I pull out the yoga mat and we do the exercises together. She enjoys using and exploring her body and I truly believe the exercises are helping with things like sitting up and learning to crawl. She seems to be a little ahead of the curve developmentally and I credit the yoga. After a session she is relaxed and content and we stare into each others eyes and smile. I would recommend this. It's a great way to spend some structured time with your little one.

Bonding with baby,

This is a wonderful way to bond with your baby. As simple as the poses may seem, my baby absolutely loves them! The exercises offer an opportunity to hold your baby, have him/her look into your eyes, and bond. My baby now starts to giggle as soon as she recognizes the songs I sing with each pose/exercise. I highly recommend this as a baby shower gift - a lot more useful than yet another clothing item...

Rating for the Poor Kindle Version,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Itsy Bitsy Yoga (Kindle Edition)
The low rating reflects the quality of the Kindle version, which is carelessly produced and definitely not worth the price of the item (which is the same as the Amazon price for the printed version.)
There are photos missing throughout the Kindle version of the book, which is frustrating for those just learning the poses. Also, there are numerous page references in the book, and as the numbering of the Kindle version does not correspond to this, navigating the book is a major pain until you make your own bookmarks and hilights. Until these are corrected by the publisher I suggest avoiding the Kindle version and getting the actual book instead. Hopefully Amazon is listening and will send an updated version to those disappointed customers who bought the Kindle version!

This is a WONDERFUL book. I just love it and really enjoy doing in with my daughter. I recommend it to every expecting parent. I'm sorry I didn't start baby yoga right after my daughter was born.

This review is from: Itsy Bitsy Yoga: Poses to Help Your Baby Sleep Longer, Digest Better, and Grow Stronger (Paperback)
It's amazing how calm and happy my 16 month old becomes when I sing her the songs and use the Yoga that Helen developed for this book. I don't know what I would do without it! My little "yogini" now requests "Hop Along Yogi" and she is instantly happy and calm. This book is a must read!
