From the Publisher
Itzaj Maya is an endangered member of the Yucatecan branch of the Maya language family and is currently of special interest to Maya involved in the revitalization movement in Guatemala Mexico. While working on a grammar of Itzaj, Charles Hofling became convinced of the need for a lexicon as well. This is the first such work.
Containing over twenty-thousand entries, this reference will be of immense value to linguists, anthropologists, epigraphers engaged in deciphering Maya glyphs, ethnobotanists, and others interested in the Maya. In order to make this Itzaj Maya dictionary as comprehensive as possible, it appears in a trilingual format with extensive Spanish-Itzaj Maya and English-Itzaj indexes. It includes a user's guide with information necessary for looking up words and understanding the entry format, and a grammatical sketch describing essential morphological and syntactic processes of Itzaj Maya words. Three separate appendixes present flora and fauna taxonomy and an overview of body parts.
