Ivan Lins has recorded several live albums like:The one with Irakere in Cuba, the one at the MCG in Pittsburgh and this one in Brazil celebrating at the time 20 Years of professional career; and all his live performances are perfect, just like the studio takes but with the thrill that only concerts can bring. Here in this CD, every single cut is strong, so technically all of them are stand-outs!! he plays this repertoire (where several of these compositions have become Brazilian Jazz standards) in a very romantic note; very in-tune with the audience and the result is very pleasing. My favorites are: * Madalena - The standard that Elis Regina immortalized * Setembro (Amada) - This one commercialized years ago by Quincy Jones & Take 6 * Dinoarh,Dinorah - Also commercialized in 1980 by George Benson * Somos Todos Iguais Esta Noite * Abre Alas (a.k.a. The Smiling Hour) check Sarah Vaughn's version * Iluminados * Comecar de Novo (a.k.a. The Island) check Barbara Streisand's version * Vitoriosa * Aos Nossos Filhos This is absolutely a MUST-HAVE for Ivan Lins' fans and fans of Fine Music everywhere. P.S. This Som Livre CD is Out of Print, so I'd recommend you to get it from sellers before there are no more around. |
