not so terrible as Ivan and others contemporany leaders,

This is a well known film of Eisenstein, that relates some aspects of the conturbated life of Ivan IV - an important tsar of the medieval period of the russian history. It was the phase of the creation of the Russian State and the film reveals the reaction of the neighbours ennemies of the recent built kingdon of Russia in Moscow. Also reveals the plans of Ivan to expand the russian territory and the internal intriges in the court, through some boyards. Ivan is represented as a lucid king in the political aspects, but took by psychosis in the domestic questions. I imagine that Eisenstein wants to uncover some critic about the new russian leader - Stalin.
