Enriching the grandchildren's understanding on the back of Robin Hood, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, etc.,

This review is from: Ivanhoe (Animated Version) (DVD)
The grandchildren (grandaughter aged 9 and grandson aged 4) understand about Robin Hood and they also participated in Missoula Children's Theatre production of " King Arthur's Quest" so the Ivanhoe DVD introduced more characters from that time giving additional historical weight. Compelling and understandable stories that were good for discussion points and checking who do you think did this or that. How does Ivanhoe fit in to the story of Robin of Loxley who returned home from the Holy Wars and found his estate in disarray. Provided additional discussion and interaction between us. Really expanding the children's world. There is a quiz at the end of this DVD that was small, but excellent competitive and fun.

I tried using this video with my 8th grade History class and it wasn't a big hit. While they liked the idea of watching a film, it was quite slow moving and corny for a animated film. However, it did a good job hitting most of the major details of the story. Nothing wrong with the movie, it just would have been better with a younger audience.

I have a a great many titles of this set. As stories, they are very well done. I like the writings of Sir Walter Scott.
