Misses the Mark February 13, 2010
Format:MP3 Download
This album appears to be a compilation of Clapton's pop/rock songs from 1983 to 2002. There are some good songs here: Tears in Heaven, Layla, Bad Love and Pretending being the best. However, there's nothing here from his best albums from this time period. There's nothing from "Unplugged," nothing from "From the Cradle," nothing from "24 Nights" and nothing from "Reptile." If you're a Clapton fan who does not have his material from the 80's and 90's, this album will give you highlights from what is generally regarded as his worst albums. That's not a bad thing thing because it saves you from having to buy them all, and you can buy his better albums separately and not duplicate material. And you certainly can't complain about the price at the time of this review. But if you're just interested in getting into Clapton's best music, I'd find another compilation album that will give you a better insight into his magnificent career. Try Complete Clapton instead.

All good songs, but... January 30, 2010
Format:MP3 Download
Don't get me wrong. This is a top notch collection of Clapton's Warner Bros. era stuff. It's just all available elsewhere in several more complete compilartions. It is, however, a good place to start for someone who wants a tatse of his radio hits of the 80s, 90s and 2000s. Many of my particular favorites are all here; "Forever Man," "She's Waiting," "It's in the Way that you Use It" and all. However, if you want something a little more complete representing this era of his work, there are two others that are far more comprehensive: "Clapton Chronicles" (a single disc) and "Clapton Complete" (a double that also goes back much further and includes his 70s solo work and some Cream efforts as well). If you have either of these, you can burn your own copy of almost everything that's included here and enjoy it in the car!

well worth it... February 15, 2010

This is a very nice compilation of Clapton's mid-career solo efforts. Forgetting the fact that the compilation is being offered at such a reasonable price (which makes buying it well worth it), each song on the record is of high quality, and the sequence in which the songs appear on the record is quite good. In my opinion, despite its brilliance, "Tears in Heaven" is mis-placed here. For me, it would have been better to hear at the end. And although the 9 min long live recording of "Layla" is a nice bonus, it doesn't make tremendous sense as the finisher. This record may not be as critically-acclaimed of some of Clapton's earlier or more thorough compilations that also reach back into his early career but it still represents some of the best studio recordings he produced in the 1990s.
