5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful debut
My only complaint about this is: "When is she going to record a new album!?" Ive Mendes first album is a very strong New Bossa Nova adventure. Perfect for summer time parties

3.0 out of 5 stars Very good Bosa Nova singer
I've purchased this album because I liked her song "Nao Vou Fugir" in the Siddharta: Spirit of Buddha-bar Vol. 3. Few songs in this album are very nice, if you like Bebel Gilberto and other traditional Bosa Nova music.

This Debut Album is full of surprises; first of all and perhaps the most important aspect of this recording is Ive's superb voice; it's perfect for her style (pop/smooth jazz).
The phrasing, the tempo, the compositions, eveything in this album guarantees you a delightful experience.
And the video??............... well, if you perceive the vocal hues, you can imagine the video.
Don't miss this gem from the wonderful realm of Brazilian Music.

I really enjoy Ive Mendes, great smooth jazzy rythms.

She shares those very unique songs with the audience, when I heard one of her songs for the first time, I wanted to listen to more of her songs, I had a feeling her album has to been.

Both my husband and I enjoy this CD a lot.

I first heard Nao Vou Fugir on the Deluxe Edition of Erotic Lounge and I really enjoyed what I heard, needless to say, I immediately bought two copies of the cd. The reasoning behind this is that there are different versions of the the cd, some with remixes and another version with songs that are exclusive to that version of the album. The songs on the cd all have different "flavours", down-to mid-tempo, light jazz and some hints of bossa, all which are perfect for lounging during the day or after dark.

Ive's collaborative work with Mr. Hermano is definitely worth taking a listen, Capoeira Love Affair, Como Um Sol, and Jugando Con Fuego are all available on various compilations. Ive also collaborates with producer Robin Millar on his solo cd entitled "Kiss and Tell", although it is only on two songs, regardless it is an enjoyable listen. Lastly, Ive released a song, quite some time ago, by the name of "Hanime", it has a sound that is a little different than the songs on this cd, but the song is just as seductive, if not even more so, than anything on this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars We need more music from this lady!, May 3, 2006

I read a review of this album some time back in the "Vancouver Sun", but didn't order it due to cost. Now with the strength of the CDN $, I took the plunge - a good idea!
First, dismiss some comments you'll hear:
-"Sounds like Sade" - yes, at times, but she certainly forges her own unique sound.
- "Wow! What cleavage!" - yes, Ive Mendes is stunning. Do you like her for her music or not?
- "Sings in Spanish" - I'm not a linguist, but since Ms Mendes is Brazilian, I expect she's singing in Portuguese, not Spanish.
(Bebel Gilberto also sings in Portuguese; use her vocals as a comparison)
There is a blend of music on this album that crosses many boundaries: Brazilian rhythms, jazz, pop with a mix of vocal stylings and it makes for wonderful listening. I've played this album every night since I've got it and I'm still hearing new aspects and nuances in it. This album, like Pat Metheny Group's "First Circle", would be ideal under the summer stars with a glass of wine.
Money well spent. Ms Mendes, we need another album! I'll be there regardless of the cost!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, Undiscovered Talent, August 27, 2005

Why hasn't Ive Mendes been discovered? Her voice is heavenly, sexy and unique. Yes, she does sound a bit like Sade, but she has her own Brazilian sound and it is awesome. She has become one of my favorite singers and I wish she record a new CD. Everyone who hears this CD in my home or car, loves it. My neighbor called one day to ask me to put the sound down on my stereo because she was studying, but also asked me to borrow the CD because it was so good. I can play this CD forever, it has a calming yet exciting vibe. Beautiful, just waiting for more!!!!!
