I have 4 pets at home and while I can afford name brand products like HeartGuard, I would rather spend my hard-earned money elsewhere.

This product is an economical way to prevent heartworms in dogs in contrast to prescription tablets like Heart Guard. Here is the oral dosage:

up to 14 pounds: 1 drop (0.05 cc)
* 15 to 29 pounds: 0.1 cc
* 30 to 58 pounds: 0.2 cc
* 59 to 88 pounds: 0.3 cc
* 89 to 117 pounds: 0.4 cc
* 118 to 147 pounds: 0.5 cc.

Treatment should be given every 45 days following the beginning of mosquito season and continuing until 45 days after the end of mosquito season. Or you could give it once a month until one month after the end of mosquito season. Some breeds (especially collies)are very sensitive to ivermectin. Only use this product if your dog has tolerated Heartguard.

I've been using this for my dogs for a year. It's great to know I can prevent heartworms safely in my guys for less than 10 cents a dose! Another reviewer put fairly correct dosages for this sheep drench formulation on here. I have an allergy shot syringe I use just to measure the liquid. (These are available at any pharmacy or W -Mart, a pack of 10 for about 3 dollars) My dogs are just over 50 pounds and I use about .3 cc, less than 1/3 the syringe. The syringe can be reused multiple times since you aren't injecting it. Then I put it on a chunk of chicken sitting on top of their dog food and they scarf it up. Do this every 6 weeks during warm months through Thanksgiving. Happy dogs, happy pocketbook. The bottle has a shelf life of just a couple of years and for me it's like a 30 year supply, so it would be a good idea to share it with your relatives or neighbors. Thanks to drmark1961 and his hubpages on pets for lots of good information on this, dosages, and other canine topics.

This product was received in record time. It will work great for heartworm control for my dog! Saving lots of money using this instead of the overpriced heartworm products that are sold in stores!

Our huge (100 pound) Golden Retriever had a flare up of some type of mange. The front of his neck and side of his face had scabby patches with the hair falling out. Since it was obviously some type of mange and since the different types are treated the same AND since a vet's tests are expensive and not always accurate, we decided to give this a try. Poor dog was lethargic one day and the next a scabby rash started on his neck and quickly moved up the side of his face. Here is how we dosed him:

Day 1) 0.5cc 2) 0.75cc 3) 1.0cc he started to have more energy 4) 1.2cc 5) 1.2cc 6) 1.2cc his mange spots were looking much better 7) 1.5cc started getting several tiny odd mange-like bumps on his back that were some concern 8) 1.5cc his energy level is definitely back to normal 9-33) 1.5cc everyday... somewhere in here his spots on his back disappeared 34-41) 1.7cc bumped it up a little because we found a spot on the back of his neck about the size of two quarters. That spot is now gone.

Today is day 41. We plan to continue to give him the Ivermectin for 3 months as recommended on a couple web sites. His energy level has continued to be normal. Yeah! We have been dosing him orally with a 1.0cc syringe-- no needle, just a plastic tip. Our local pharmacist gave it to us free when I asked about one. We squirt it in the back of his mouth and then give him a treat.

We also used Durvet Nu-Stock Ointment topically for the first week. Hope this information helps.

When you have a lot of animals this is a great alternative to going broke. If you're nervous trying it give half a dose the first month. That's what I did.

dosage for Sarcoptic mange is 0.3mg (300mcg) per kilogram (2.2 pounds) dog weight once a week for 6 doses. what they don't tell you is that you can give your dog one drop (yes, i said one drop) per 7 KILOGRAMS of dog weight once monthly, and your dog will NEVER get heartworms!!! double that heartworm dosage if you like, because you can give 100 TIMES that dosage with little or no side effects!!!

Does exactly what we expected for our dogs at a cost that we on a fixed income can afford to maintain the health of our beloved pets.

I use this for my two dogs as a heart worm preventative/ heart worm treatment (I use it for my 6 month old puppy who most likely did not have heartworms before and my dog who is over a year who may or may not have heartworms). If you use it for this purpose just make sure to look up the correct dosage for the weight of your dog and get the correct syringe! (for example I use .1 and .3cc for my dogs, NOT 1 and 3cc (notice the decimal in front)
