I enjoy this version; everyone wants to produce the Lady of ambitious scandal! Martine Carol plays a frivolous and funny Madame; her tongue sticking, her smart talk. I like how accurately the director makes this film, the eighteenth century woman really revives in this film. Such a shame Versailles is so celestial and divine, but filled with wicked, obnoxious nobles. Duchess De Grammont and Duc Du Chouisel are both ambitious and Marie Antoinette is headstrong with an attitude. The King, Jeanette, Louis XVI, and Duc Du Richelieu seem to be the only good people in this film, so filled with witty remarks and replies, you really can't turn the tables in speech with them. The greedy and beastly coward Jean Du Barry is using Jeanette as a wheel for his own elevation; played with such good brutality by Daniel. Martine Carol is the real star making the role stand out; full of passion and feline playfulness. Rich gowns and amazing hair styles make this film a real treasure. What's also great is the dialogue as I mentioned above.
