About the Author

Monty Don is one of Britain’s best-loved gardeners. He wrote a weekly column for the Observer between 1994 and 2006, earning him a devoted readership, and he was the charismatic presenter of BBC Gardener’s World from 2003 to 2008. He lives and gardens in Herefordshire with his wife Sarah, with whom he wrote The Jewel Garden, and their three children.

I loved the BBC series "Around the World in 80 Gardens", and followed up with The Ivington Diaries by Monty Don. As a dedicated gardener, this book's delightful voyage through the seasons, month by month, is full of wonderful ideas and inspiration. But what is perhaps even more important than the stunning photos and dedication to gardening by Monty and Sarah Don, is the beautiful prose which reveals Monty's relationship to his garden and his family through the building of his life around his "ancient" farmhouse, the digging up of centuries worth of other buildings in the very soil he cultivates, and the birds and other wildlife which live within the garden. I read The Diaries right through, then picked it up and started again. This book will remain on my side table as I continue my own gardening journey on the other side of the world, in Australia.
