For personal use my family uses mostly locally made soaps or Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps Pure-Castile Soap, 18-in-1 Hemp Peppermint, 32-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 2). When we use commercial soap, this is our choice.
Soap is a chemical reaction that happens when you mix lye with fat. When you look at labels and it says something like sodium cocoate it means saponified (made into soap using lye) coconut oil. So when you buy soaps, if you want pure soap, you're looking for those sorts of ingredients. Simply Ivory is not a vegan friendly soap because it can have tallow in it. It is a real soap though.
We use it for our laundry soap. Shred bars and mix them with Borax, washing soda and water and cook it until it turns into a gel. It works very well for our laundry and costs less than other laundry detergents and rinses out very clean. The slight amount of scent in this soap doesn't cause my allergies to flare up.
We also use it in rebatching soaps as gifts or if we want a specific type of soap. The price is right, and it works very well for those uses.

First off this is an incredible deal for Ivory Bar Soap, these are the standard large size bar soap and you get 40 of them!
I've used Ivory Soap for years and when I got my order delivered I couldn't wait to open up and use the first bar.

This is the same 'clean' feeling I expect from Ivory Bar Soap, I would't change it for any other brand. I got this 40-bar offer because of the growing prevalence of 'liquid' soap. Here in the U.S. I can eventually see bar soap trending into obsolescence so I'm grabbing a good stock of it for future use. I'm subscribing for the once every 6 months just to keep a good supply on hand for storage. The soap is wrapped in the standard Ivory wrap and then plastic wrapped over it. Keep in a dry cool place and all is 'good' for a future usable supply!

This is a must get for those who do not want the film left from all the additive ingredients and chemicals other brands use.

I have been buying Ivory soap for dozens of years and loved what it stands for -- purity. It left no smell or stickiness unlike any other brands on the market. Recently I bought a package of Ivory soap from a local store. Once I started using this package, I realized the soup left stickiness on my face and body after the soup was rinsed off. This is very unlike the Ivory I used for twenty-some years. The old package, if I remember correctly, says, "It's so pure that it floats" (or was it just in the commercials?). The package now says "Simply Ivory," which I have no idea what it means. I suppose they do not want to say something like "Simply soap" or "Simply clean" since that is not the case any more. It left these icky sticky chemicals all over your body.

It's sad to see Ivory becoming just another great brand that I loved and recommended to my friends for dozens of years is changed into something else.

I am now looking for another brand that stands for "pure soap".

If you are anywhere near a Target or Walmart store, you can buy the 10 bar packs for about $4.29. That's about $17.20 for 40 bars. And it was only a few years ago that these were 12 bar packs for around $3.25. And Von's supermarkets here in S. Calif. put them on sale occasionally for less than $4 per 10 bar pack.

I also notice that the list of ingredients is much longer than it used to be. Can anyone confirm this.

I have used this product for years but, recently, the manufacturer decreased the size. I wanted the larger 4.5 Oz but, was not certain that they could still be available. To my delight, the correct product is exactly what was delivered to me. Price and shipping time were exactly what I expected. I would be happy to purchase from Amazon on-line again.

Cheap, basic, gets-the-job-done utilitarian soap.

I'm a simple guy with simple needs. This is a simple soap and it washes my simple body. It simply cleans well and has simply no residue.

The bars are huge and almost too big to hold. They last a long time and you get 40 of them.

Hear, hear, Ivory...hear, hear.

This product is not the normal Ivory soap. It leaves a greasy film on your skin. Not exactly sure of why, but I compared this to store bought Ivory and it was certainly different for the worse.

I started looking for bar soaps to buy for my grandmother because she always handwashes our clothes and 1 bar of soap is usually used in about two weeks. At first i wanted to buy the dove bars but since she was using it to wash the clothes, it didnt really make sense to use scented bars that cost about twice as much money as this. I decided to get this product because it was affordable, it came in a large amount, and it smells good to my grandmother. It took about a week to get here which is fast since i bought it with eligible free shipping wchich takes about 5-8 days to ship. When we opened it, the smell jsut hit my nose and it smelt like chinese stuff which didnt really attract to me but my grandmother loved the smell and said that the soap was really good. In other words, my mission was complete, i got my grandmother a great soap for handwashing clothes without using that much money.
