This is an "Ivy Bridge" processor but all Ivy Bridge processors are backwards compatible with Sandy Bridge chipsets/motherboards. Just to be technically correct, these are the CPU's formerly known as "Ivy Bridge"... no longer called that. They are now referred to as "3rd Generation" Intel Core I7-3770.
