Unlike other history books, this is an educational keepsake--a composite of two books--one outlines the history of the battle and the events of the 50th Anniversary Commemoration held on the island on March 14, 1995 (the story of veteran William P. McIntosh, who joined the Marines at 14 and experienced combat at an age when most teenagers are learning to drive, is especially touching). The second is a miniature photo album containing thirteen pictures detailing events of the day, from placing wreaths on a memorial to the returning of a Japanese flag taken during the battle. From the Author
This was the most emotional book for me to write. Just being on Iwo Jima for the 50th Commemoration was honor enough, but to interview veterans, listen to their war stories (some very humorous), and take photos of them throughout the day made me realize that war *is* hell. I will never forget March 14, 1995 for the rest of my life.

A Wonderful Remembrance for WWII Vets and Buffs,

I found this package a treat - the best part is the mini photo album with the color photos. This is a great "brag book" for vets who were there the day of the anniversary or were in the battle itself and couldn't make it to the anniversary commemoration. The small bag of black sand is touching and the slim book is informative.

Another great Hitchcock book!,

I ordered two of Hitchcock's other books at the same time (The Ghosts of Okinawa and Torment), but this one holds a special place in my heart. My father was in the battle of Iwo Jima, so everything in this wonderful package means so much to me. Kudos to the author! Great photos!

This unique package surprised me. I didn't know this event took place on Iwo Jima in 1995, so I found the articles in the slim book very interesting and the mini photo album was worth the price of this package alone! Highly recommended.
