I found this package a treat - the best part is the mini photo album with the color photos. This is a great "brag book" for vets who were there the day of the anniversary or were in the battle itself and couldn't make it to the anniversary commemoration. The small bag of black sand is touching and the slim book is informative.

I ordered two of Hitchcock's other books at the same time (The Ghosts of Okinawa and Torment), but this one holds a special place in my heart. My father was in the battle of Iwo Jima, so everything in this wonderful package means so much to me. Kudos to the author! Great photos!

This unique package surprised me. I didn't know this event took place on Iwo Jima in 1995, so I found the articles in the slim book very interesting and the mini photo album was worth the price of this package alone! Highly recommended.

Iwo Jima - A Retrospective is definitely a collector's item for any WWII fans out there. This chapbook and mini photo album depict what it was like for veterans of the Iwo Jima battle to come back to the island 50 years later. The photos are well-done and poignant and the chapbook not only reflects on the commemorative events of that special day, but also gives a background on the battle and a map of the island. It was almost like being there.

"Iwo Jima" may be considered more of a souvenir scrapbook than the usual tome of WWII history--thi s package contains a short book chronicling the events of the 50th anniversary of Iwo Jima, with a few memories and anecdotes from some who experienced the war in Japan firsthand. The second book is an actual photo album detailing vividly the moments of the 50th anniversary.

This is a great gift for a history/WWII buff!
