Customer Reviews

This is the best and easiest to use knife sharpener I have ever used.
Bun
I have used this sharpener only on the fine setting, and it has worked extremely well keeping the blades sharp enough to slice tomatoes(my test for sharpness).
David
I actually use this then swipe it across my steel rod to fine tune it.

It did not take but a couple of swipes across this product to turn my dull knife into a razor sharp knife. I have to be extra careful when I use my knives now. Couldn't be happier

if i had back all the money i have spent over the years for sharpeners i could retire. this one works well and quickly. it's a little hard on the blade, but other than a stone (which i can never get right)all sharpeners for dummies are.it works well on thicker chef's knifes and thiner paring knifes.

I was really suprised the first time I used this sharpener. It worked great on my Henckels International Classic knives. What really suprised me was that it only took several strokes to get the blades razor sharp. Previously, I used the steel to reset the blades, but could not get the sharp edge on them that this sharpener accomplished. I will continue to use the steel to reset the blades (I don't want to wear them down too much), but using this sharpener instead is really tempting.

Is this the best sharpener ever made. No. Does it do a good job at a reasonable price and very quickly. Yes. I've used this on kitchen knives and swiss army knives.

...oddly, I this one does a better than the Zwilling model that costs more. I got the Zwilling one thinking it would be even better. It was not as good.

Pros:
Quick - I use 5-10 pulls at each angle (see caveat below) with medium pressure and then finish with 3-5 light pulls
Economical - As I write this it is $12 plus S&H
Good - this type of pull through sharpener is self guiding and gives one a very servicable edge. Do NOT apply too much pressure or you might gouge a fine blade.

Caveat: One must pull up where the blade curves or the change the angle of pull through which is what I do. I generally use 2-3 angles to get the flat part of the blade and curved part.

Cons:
If a knife is really dull, one is still going to need a stone to re-bevel the edge.
Sometimes a knife handle/guard will prevent the blade from going all the way in and you are left with maybe 1/8 to 1/4" unsharpended towards the handle. More of an issue with a pocket knife.
This will get a knife to hair shaving sharp, but not true razor sharpness.

Construction: Think of two wagon axles, where, on each axle, the wheels can slide and bang in to each other. Then position one axle close to the other such that all four "wheels" inter-lace. The first set of wheels are dark, the last white. There is no way to hone only on the final stage. It's an all or nothing deal. The blade must pass through all four inter-lacing discs.
This thing is OK as a free gift with purchase but I wouldn't buy it. I had one very old Japanese steel blade parring knife. I used a steel to set the edge and ran it though. I got a decent edge with only modest effort. Next was an 8" Chinese "Titanium". Got an edge of sorts on that. Finally, a Chicago Cutlery 8" stainless steel chef's knife. Set the edge on a steel. Could not get an edge, the knife's poor grade steel was probably the cause. >>> Do not be tempted to run your better knives though this or they may be ruined. Not for Santoku style 15 degree blades.

Pros:
Sturdy footprint, good grip, and fairly idiot proof. Did sharpen several very old, abused blades that now can slice ginger paper thin.

Cons:
I don't expect this thing to hold up to more than a couple of dozen sharpening before the ceramic discs need replacing. Of course, you can not replace the discs because the body is glued. If the discs were replaceable, then I would have given this another star. Make this eco-friendly by include spare ceramic discs and I'll recommend for common knives for ease of use. Spend a few more bucks and get something with replaceable ceramic honing rods and with separate course or edge setter. Also, wheels can chatter and take chips out of some types of steel. I woulds, under no circumstance run a fine blade through this.

I was looking for a good option to buy to sharpen all my knives and got this one. It has work pretty good, the knives are very sharp and only with 2 or 3 times you pass it by the sharpener. It's not very comfortable to hold while sharpening but is good for the price and use. I will suggest to anyone for the house.
