Owing to my clearly herculean strength, I was able to snap the steel of this blade while cutting through the breast bone of a young fryer. If my irritation with this product started there, I would've given four stars and advised other shoppers to take the "unbreakable" description with a grain of salt. Truth be told, however, I've never liked these shears. I bought them in a pinch at a brick and mortar and even as I held the package in my hands, I knew I was a rube in possession of an inferior product at a superior markup. Far from their tutonic namesake, Henckels Intl. has since been banned from our kitchen.

Anyway, if you're like me, you'll abhor the ergonomics of the handles. Bulky in the wrong places and pathetically thin in those areas where you'll want better grip, the handle never manages to afford the sort of rock solid control you'd expect. Further, the grade of molded plastic doesn't readily take to your grip and always feels somewhat slippery and pokey.

The steel itself was designed with better intentions with a bit more material and leverage where the shears are intended to crunch through bone, but the thin-ness in steel at the crucial juncture is not only an invitation for castatrophic breaks, it does a poor job of transferring force into the cut. As a result, a powerful squeeze of the shears does not translate into a smooth cut, but rather a wobbly, twisting dance that could just as well take off your pinky if you aren't careful.

And now my biggest complaint: the sloppy afterthought passing itself off as a latch. There to keep the shears closed when stored, it also serves to get in your way when you least expect it. Since it doesn't lock away when in use, it often jams between the handles and interrupts use. Add this 'feature' to a bad grip, thin wobbly steel, and the task of cutting through bone, and you have a recipe for buyer's remorse.

I chose this shears because of the knives we have in the kitchen. Have used it twice now after pheasant hunting and am really happy with the quality.

These things cut through bones like nothing. They are only one man Henckels which are supposedly lower quality, but they feel sturdy and do their job well.

Excellent. The best i ever bought. And, unfortunately, until these, i have tried many. But these are the absolute winners. The best. Caution: don't get any part of your hand or fingers caught between the handles!!
