Nora Roberts is a terrific writer but I'd always stayed away from the J. D. Robb books as I thought I wasn't a mystery reader. But I started one and got totally hooked. Great books and a wonderful story line. Im sorry I missed these for so many years but now I have a great opportunity to catch up with all of them.

Normally I do not care for audio abridged books, but these are outstanding. Susan Eriksen is the best reader I have experienced in any aufio books. J. D. Robb's outstanding writing is maintained in the abridgements!

I've been buying these Robb "In Death" crime collections on audio for my nightly "story time" for quite a while now. Nora Roberts writes a good, solid, dependable crime tale each time. I'm not sure of why she's chosen to place the time line in "the future" - it is not apropos to the story - but then it doesn't detract from it either.

The heroine's rich sexy Irish husband seems to find his way into most of the tales either as a suspect or a surreptitious helper but I accepted his addition due to the added juicy sex scenes...sigh....

The narrator is top rate. Being an aficionado of books on tape I can attest to the fact that Susan Ericksen is the best. She's actually the one who moves these books from ordinary to exceptional and brings them to life.

These 3 book collections are a thrifty way of purchasing Robb's set. I'm giving the same review to all of these audio collections as they are quite equal. Well worth your time and money....bg

I bought this to add to my JD Robb collection of audio books, originally I listened to a Library copy. GOod Series and great way to occupy time traveling back & forth to work. She writes so well you can seee the characteers and I am sure many people think I am crazy when they look at me shaking my head or laughing at the book while I listen to it.

Great fun characters, interesting story lines, and the 'sci fi' link to the future is fun too.

Stories don't leave out much of the original books & are great to listen to on the long drive to & from work.

I picked up the audio cassetts at first, could not stop listening. The narrator is wonderful. Susan Erickson does a great job with all the characters of the series. She is very consistent with the voices and attitudes. S. Erickson has a way with her voice that will keep you captivated. I am very addicted to this audio series and highly recommend them to anyone who is willing to give audio books a try. I now download every single one of J.D. Robb series. I can't read the books now that I have listened to the series. Thanks J.D. Robb for the great mysteries and S. Erickson for keeping me listening.

I have been reading and listening to JD Robb books for years. I love the characters. They are interesting, entertaining, and you don't have to strain your brain to enjoy them. GREAT!

Much to my dismay, I was a bit disappointed with this set. I found the abridgements themselves lacking because of the amount of information that was cut out. For example, characters would move or things would happen with no info on how or why they happened. In fact, I listened to one disk 3 times, thinking I'd missed something, but the fact was that the connecting details just weren't there. I'd also LOVE to see these rerecorded using the voices that the reader, Susan Ericksen, uses in the more recent books; they're absolutely PERFECT!!! (Many of the voices are the same or similar here, but some are different, most notably the Commander's.)

I started listening to Audio books a year ago due to long commutes and boring work-outs. I've listened to over 50 books. Susan Ericksen is the very best voice I've ever heard. The books have multiple characters and types of people and she hits a bull's eye everytime. The rich snob, the "chem head", the drunken "girls night out", the hurt/angry/scared/brave heorine, the cold/steely/passionate hero. She adds nuances and inflections that make the characters come alive. When she does fast "back and forth" dialog between two or more characters she nails it, you know exactly who is speaking! As far as the books - I enjoy the JD Robb persona/writer to the Norma Roberts. I've avoided these "In Death" books for years because the "futuristic" aspect (occurs in 2058) turned me off. The books were getting such rave reviews that I finally broke down and bought them. I am so glad. The future setting is not at all off-putting, it's fun and interesting. Many of the things are not at all unbelievable and the things that are (inter-planet travel as common as inter-national)are just touched on lightly. The mysteries are fun, the stories rich and complex with characters and emotions and, thankfully, the pace is fast. I didn't give a perfect score because I like a little more sex - not erotica, just a little more seduction, heat and sexiness. Or, in the absence of sex, lots more humor. I've ordered the #2 through #8 CD collections and I can't wait to get them. Excellent buy.
