3.0 out of 5 stars Product works well but looks tacky from the outside, May 16, 2010

These really do work to keep the heat out and even darkens the room, cutting out about half the amount of light that came through while allowing me to see out. They are easy to install (I put mine straight onto a tension rod) and can be cut to size (they feel like a cross between aluminum foil and plastic wrap). I love how they save energy and, from the inside, is a nice gray color that is inconspicuous behind my vertical blinds. Unfortunately, from outside the house, it really looks cheap and ghetto, as if you've taped shiny aluminum foil to your window. And the creases don't help. The material is rather stiff and paper-like (not like cloth), so it doesn't allow the nice waves like in the photo shown. I put in extra panels, and all it did was stick out on the sides and overlap.

As soon my husband came home and saw it, he insisted that I get rid of it... but I'm going to wait to see if I get an official warning from our apartment complex before I take it down. It really is SOO much cheaper than buying thermal-backed curtains.

UPDATE - When it rained last night, the moisture on the inside of the windows made some parts of the curtains stick to it. This morning, I tried to peel the curtain off but some of the shiny material came off and became stuck on the glass. I haven't tried to scrub it off yet, so I'm not sure if this is permanent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works!, July 2, 2010
This review is from: Solar Curtain (36x81)
I live in southern Nevada--117 in summer! This thing works. But, I did not put it on a rod. I cut it to fit my sliding glass door and used blue painter's tape to tape it on. Two people are better for this task. You have to be careful--the silver comes off when you touch it. However, it was worth it. From the outside the door just looks like it has a silver coating. No one can see in during the day, which is good because the door opens from my bedroom to my front driveway. However I can see out. During the day, it darkens the room. With the drapes closed it has also kept the morning light from waking us at 4:30 a.m. At night, everything reverses: I can't see out, but folks could see in if the lights were on and the drapes open. Great inexpensive alternative to getting window film professionally installed. My taped-on version looks neat from the outside. I've had no complaints from the neighbors.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solar Curtains, June 6, 2010

I've used these for years. If you leave them up all year, they'll last 1 1/2 to 2 years before you need to replace. If you only leave them up in spring / summer months they will last several years. Without an air conditioner and with lots of glass on the east side of the house, these make a huge difference in heat.
