Great cutting power, but blade lock is badly designed,

I was thrilled when I first began to use this project - it's very sharp & very strong, crunching through small bones with ease. However, the safety lock is in a bad place - it's small & easily engaged, and on quite a few occasions now, the mere action of cutting - when the lock gets sideswiped by the chicken itself - will engage the lock, and then I have to manually open it up again. It's EXTREMELY irritating - I would call it a major design flaw. If it weren't for that lock, I'd reccomend these shears to anyone - but I'd hesitate to recommend them now. I will deal with them, and I'm sure there's a way to learn to live with them well (after all, they do cut beautifully, so long as you can avoid activating that lock) - but I don't feel there should need to be a "break-in" period for a new pair of poultry shears!

I agree with kitchen junkie; the lock is a major design flaw. I've found it's nearly impossible to cut up as little as a quarter chicken without the shears locking up at least once. Plus, I'd read reviews (I thought they were here; apparently not) that complained about the internal spring (which my girlfriend found very fatiguing, btw) rusting out and breaking: well, mine rusted out and broke yesterday. As a result, the blades don't meet tightly any more, so the shears won't cut anything. I've only had them for four months and they're useless.

spring broke,
This review is from: J.A. Henckels International Henckels Poultry Shears (Kitchen)
Two months old and the internal spring broke. I will go out and spend more on a better set of shears next time. Avoid this product if you expect to use them nearly everyday as I do. I cut up 5-7 chicken or duck necks for my dogs raw diet most every day. I'm going to look into the warranty replacement next. More to follow after I nail down a warranty replacement set.

Lasted 2 months and internal spring broke. They look good, feel good but the quality is NOT there. Sure I could send them back to be replaced but I'd just end up with another pair and they aren't worth the postage! I have some great old Henckels shears that are 35+ years old but these new ones were made in China.... ugh!

Broke after 6 months,

I bought these earlier this year and was extremely happy about them. Until yesterday, when they broke. The spring that keeps the blades apart broke and they are no longer usable. Until then I was happy with them; I used them to cut raw meat and bones.

Disappointing Henckels product,
This review is from: J.A. Henckels International Henckels Poultry Shears (Kitchen)
These shears are sharp, have a nice feel and make quick work of cutting up a chicken, that explains the 3-star rating, but the spring didn't last long - not even a year. I didn't expect such poor performance from a Henckels product. Disappointing, really. The spring was weakened by rust, which it developed even though I'd always wash the shears by hand and dry them immediately, just like I do with the knives. I've replaced them with similar (generic) shears, which turned out to be a 5-star product: they are sharp, have a heftier feel, are much easier on the hands and cost less than half the price.

Excellent tool for cutting chicken! It is amazing how these shears cut through the bones of chicken like cutting a piece of paper. I was so pleased with mine, I bought my cousin and a friend a pair. Great value too! I did some price comparisons and these by far were the cheapest.

These shears have no problem cutting through chicken bones. I have not had the problems other buyers have with the safety catch. I highly recommend these shears at this price range.
