5.0 out of 5 stars Great way to keep spices
This is a high-quality, highly useable spice rack. The frame is made of solid wood, not veneer, and made in the USA. The jars are glass and come with screw-on plastic lids and 24 small and 24 medium-holed snap-in shaker lids. The spice rack comes with 60 preprinted labels for the tops of the jar lids, covering common spices from allspice to thyme, as well as 30 blank...

This review is from: J.K. Adams CSL-48-SM 48-Jar Maple-Wood Spice Carousel (Kitchen)
Pros
----
1. Good quality construction, with a ball-bearing turnable
2. Solid wood, not veneer
3. Holds the most spice jars that I have seen (48); there's no other spice rack like it.

Cons
----
1. Glass jars are smaller than a standard spice jars (*)
2. Ball-bearing turnable is very noisy when it turns
3. Glass spice jars are also cheap, which degrade the overall product quality
4. Screw-on plastic lids are cheap, which again degrade the overall product quality
5. Wood color doesn't look like the picture; it's a very natural wood color.
5. Wood pieces are not made of a whole wood plank; several small wood planks are joined/glued together to create a wood piece
6. Too expensive! Should be less than $100.00

(*) In fact, rather than using the spice jars that it comes with; I use the nice McCormick spice glass jars by inserting them upside down so they can fit.

The jars are glass and come with screw-on plastic lids and 24 small and 24 medium-holed snap-in shaker lids. The spice rack comes with 60 preprinted labels for the tops of the jar lids, covering common spices from allspice to thyme, as well as 30 blank labels in case you stock up on more exotic spices or make your own spice blends. The rack turns smoothly on the square base, giving you easy access to all 48 spices with just an 8 inch in diameter circular footprint on your kitchen counter (yes, the base is square, but you need to allow for a circular space in order to turn the rack).

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice rack, but won't hold standard jars, December 13, 2007
This review is from: J.K. Adams CSL-48-SM 48-Jar Maple-Wood Spice Carousel (Kitchen)
The rack itself is excellent quality construction, with a ball-bearing turnable, but unfortunately the jars are just a tad smaller than a standard spice jar. I was hoping to just drop my spice collection into the rack, but I've had to transfer everything to the jar supplied with it.

If the rack had holes just a eighth of an inch larger it would be fine.

This is a well constructed, very nice product. It spins smoothly on its base and the wood is a nice light neutral color. This rack holds the most spices of any I've seen, most hold half this amount. Its true that the jars are a little smaller then standard jars, so you have to transfer the spices into the jars. Still its a very nice addition to my kitchen and works very well for me. If you like to use lots of spices and experiment with different recipe's, then this rack is the one for you. I'm very happy with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Organized, January 14, 2009
This review is from: J.K. Adams CSL-48-SM 48-Jar Maple-Wood Spice Carousel (Kitchen)
I had problems with keeping my spices organized before I purchased this spice rack. This construction was great! The only thing I would change would be the labels. It comes with a limited number and they are very utilitarian. Maybe some type of label software should come with the rack, I was able to download some from the web on Avery.com (#8293) or from Martha Stewart's website with a little more flare that fit my spices.

5.0 out of 5 stars JK Adams spice carousel, November 30, 2007
The craftmanship of the spice rack is perfect. The wood is finished beautifully and has a "soft" touch to it. When it arrived I washed the bottles in the dishwasher and hand-washed the tops, which had some kind of greasy residue on them. The labels then attached perfectly, and were for the most part a good selection of common herbs and spices (curiously missing was Mint, which I would rather have had than Cinnamon Sugar, but it's a small point). The design allows for 32 bottles in a small space. The roller bearings run very smoothly. I am quite happy with this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy and Attractive, January 9, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
First of all, at the time of this review the picture of the product does not match the product itself -- the one shown is the 48-jar version. This 32-jar version is similar, but each side is 4 jars high and 2 jars wide. Also, it should be noted that the spices are not included, since some spice racks come already filled.

The jars are glass with white plastic caps and come with translucent sifters (some with small holes, some with larger holes). Interestingly, the 2-oz McCormick and Badia bottles have removable sifters that PERFECTLY fit these glass jars -- they snap right on. So if you find yourself needing more of one type or another, they're easy to get. Personally, I just took all of the sifters off of the existing bottles I had and used them. The sifters included with the rack are in a bag stored away in case I need to replace one.

In most cases where I had a full bottle of a spice, the entire bottle would not fit into these jars. So now I have 32 bottles full of spices in the rack, plus a bag of the original bottles all about 10-20% full. A minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless. I'll just have to top off the jars as needed until I can throw away the original bottles.

The build quality of the rack itself is excellent - very solid with absolutely no flex, and an extremely smooth ball bearing rotating base. The included labels for the caps are also pretty nice. They're more of a plastic than paper, so they can be washed without getting ruined. There are more pre-printed labels than there are jars, so you can choose which spices you'd prefer to have. It also comes with a large number of blank labels for adding your own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product!, February 16, 2008
This review is from: J.K. Adams CSL-48-SM 48-Jar Maple-Wood Spice Carousel (Kitchen)
We replaced our 16ct carousel spice rack with this 48ct product. The spice rack is very well made. It is sturdy, turns smoothly and easily, and I have no doubt that it will be a fixture in our kitchen for many years to come. I'm also impressed that it holds so many spices, but takes up only a few more inches than the 16ct rack it replaced.
The rack is sized to hold standard sized spice bottles. Brand name (i.e. McCormick, Spice Time, etc) pre-filled bottles purchased at the grocery store may or may not fit, although transferring the spices to the high quality bottles included with the rack is an easy solution.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful! Beautiful wood and worth the investment, January 4, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
If you cook a lot and have many spices this is the rack for you. It is heavy, solid wood and very well made. Despite 48 bottles of spice it spins easily and quickly on its base. It fits under my cabinets and freed up a bunch of drawer and cabinet space where I had previously stored spices. The labels with it are very complete and there were only two or three spices I did not have labels for. I may get another to match for my spice blends. This is expensive but I think it will last a lifetime.

This item is wonderful to have, the spices are easy to get to and you have plenty of bottles to store your favorites. I love the way it sits on a lazy susan so you just give it a spin and there you go. It is great, I get compliments all the time on mine, I dont have to dig for what I want it is so handy sitting next to my stove.
