5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best drummer in the world
Anything that you listen of Dave Weckl's druming is exceptional, and I never have enough. This record from my own point of view is one of the best I've ever listened to. If you like drums you cannot be anymore without having listened to this Dave Weckl's album. Listen also his recordings with Chick Corea

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent music
I originally gave this CD a 1 star. However, after listening to it again, and looking past all the issues such as the reverb level, which in my opinion was really distracting, it's not a bad CD. It kind of grows on you.

The musicians themselves are good and the performance is decent, but one of the things that really bothered me was the quality of the mix...

5.0 out of 5 stars Review, September 23, 2007

Excellent Album. A masterpiece. Definitely one of my favorite all time jazz albums. Even as a bassist, I have been a long time fan of Weckl and Chick Corea.

I originally gave this CD a 1 star. However, after listening to it again, and looking past all the issues such as the reverb level, which in my opinion was really distracting, it's not a bad CD. It kind of grows on you.

The musicians themselves are good and the performance is decent, but one of the things that really bothered me was the quality of the mix. The drums sounded like there was way too much compression, especially the bass drum. The whole thing sounded very sterile. And all of the instruments had way too much reverb on it. This made it sound really "glassy" and weak. No bottom end to the music at all. I had to wonder whether the slap bass was an actual bass or an actual guitar. I didn't buy the actual CD, but actually the download. Listening to it through computer speakers and through real speakers is an entirely different thing.

I think the reverb and the mix is what killed it for me. Dave remains to be one of the best drummers in the world and his playing on this CD is very nice.

The compositions themselves are good. Remind me of the jazz that came out in the 80's. The "electric jazz".

As I stated, I originally gave this CD 1 star. But, after listening to it I think it's not all bad. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this over say Chick Corea's music, or all of Dave Weckl's CDs. And also, I think that Scott Henderson's "Tribal Tech" CD is still one of my favorite guitar CDs.
