The other reviews are not just hype. This set is really that good, through and through.
I remember the first time I heard James Moss sing on a track from Greater Emmanuel Mass Choir's 1994 album, The Sun Will Shine Again. The song was "He's Coming Back Real Soon" and I was truly amazed at this brotha's golden voice. That song remains one of my favorites to this day. As the years passed, I saw his name come up on more and more projects as a songwriter, producer and musician...not only for his relatives the Clark Sisters, but for countless others. It was evident that he's got seriously anointed talent. With each piece of music I would see his name on, I wondered when Brother James was going to drop his OWN project. Well, James Moss' time has now come and each and every song is Stellar Award and Grammy material. The songs are modern and fresh in every way while getting The Message across in an accessible way that is NOT watered down. You owe it to yourself to make The J Moss Project a part of your collection.

J. Moss, J. Moss, J. Moss. Man, what an album. You know, when I first heard that he was coming out with an album, I thought at first it was going to be a mainly hip-hopish, upbeat, urban (ugh! I hate that word) album, with over-used bible cliches, and alot of computerized beats, devoid of any live instruments. I guess I felt that way because he would usually be rapping on an album which he was making a guest appearance on. I feel like such a fool now, lol. That saying that says to "never judge a book by it's cover" is so right.
This album just goes to show aspiring gospel artists that you really don't need to put the label "urban" (ugh!) on your album for it to sound off the hook. This album is mainly traditional. Not Shirley Caesar traditional, or Edwin Hawkins traditional, but it's what I call Neo-Traditional. It has the traditional K-Ci & JoJo-like gospelly sound, and the traditional gospel, bible-based lyrics, but with a twinge of contemporary flavour. In a world where almost every new gospel artist tries so hard to imitate the world, J. Moss chose to go against the grain, stay true to his roots and at the same time not sound out-dated. He get's serious props from me for that. And here's a rarity these days in music. There is not ONE skipper on this album. Skippers are those songs on LP's that we always seem to skip over for some reason or another. On this album, there is NONE. Unless your name is Tonex, Israel Houghton, Tommy Sims, or Lisa McClendon, that never happens with me. However, from the first song I was hooked. Maybe that's because I had NO CLUE that this brotha could sing his britches off! Then again, if you are a cousin of the Clark Sisters, it's probably family protocol for you to be an outstanding vocalist. My favourite song on this album is: ALL of them. Like I said before, there are no skippers. He does have the typical PAJAM jams on here tho: "I Wanna Be, "Psalms 150", and "You Brought Me". My jam is "You Brought Me". But most of the album, surprisingly, is filled with ballads. Anointed, Word-based ballads at that, that speak to the soul AND the spirit. Songs like "Dont Pray & Worry", "The More I Think", and "Me Again" are all songs that could lift you out of any situation that has you down in the pits. Even songs dealing with carnal issues ("Livin'"). However, the song that really had me going nuts was "Work Your Faith", which talks about God giving you "more than what your asking" if you walk and ask by faith. Beautiful song. This album is definitely a classic in every sense of the word. I would recommend it to anyone from the age of 10-100. It's got something for everybody. J. Moss definitely has the skills to rival that of my favourite artist, Tonex. They're in the same league right now, I would say. I just hope J. Moss continues in this same vain and not try to do the mainstream thing of having secular guests on his album(s). We don't need them. All we need is The Lord and His Word, and this album is proof of that and then some. Get it NOW!!!

The J Moss Project Exceeded all my expectations!!!,
This review is from: The J Moss Project (Audio CD)
First of all J Moss has been teasing me for a couple of years now doing background vocals, where you couldn't pick him from the other artist or computerized vocals, and then I hear him rap repeatedly on different songs and I'm thinking okay, he must just be decent vocally. BOY WAS I FOOLED!!! The J Moss Project is amazing from I Wanna Be, to We Must Praise, to Don't Let, and and the rest and just when you think the album is done, the bonus track blows you away and leaves you with a tear in your eyes. Kudos, J Moss, Kudos!

I personally don't understand the fuss over J. Moss. There are really only a few songs on this CD I think stand out.
I've never really been fond of PAJAM production as SOMETIMES it just sounds too dependant on a computer. Don't get me wrong I love drum machines and samplin and all that but PAJAM dont always cut it for me. I also dont understand the comparisons people are makin with him and Tonex. Tonex has his own style and class. J. Moss has an impressive vocal range and cool vocal acrobatic ability but I can't take it for long spells of time. He also has this annoying habit of breathing and grunting into the mic. Hello?? Last complaint is that sometimes he tries to be more complex than necessary. I'm up for modulations and big chords cos hey i'm a musician too but aint no need to just puttin any chord with any chord. It makes the song lose structure especially some of the slower worship cuts on the album. However like I said some songs stand out. I wanna be and Livin' 4 are the ones that come to mind right now. So go cop this too but I honestly don't feel you'd miss too much if you didn't hear it.

J Moss Raises the Standard of Excellence and Ministry,
This review is from: The J Moss Project (Audio CD)
UNBELIEVABLE.....Once in a while a body of music comes along that redefines a genre and reminds us that gospel music must never be approached with mediocrity. This album displays the broad spectrum of James Moss' dexterity as a premier VOCALIST, WRITER, PRODUCER, and MUSICIAN. It is an understatement to say that EVERY SINGLE TRACK IS A GEM. From street jam to thought provoking ballad, J Moss mines deep with a litter of unexpected chord changes and powerful messages while singing the lead and background vocals on every song; AMAZING. No track leaves you hanging or empty, there is NO FLUFF and additionally Moss succeeds in treading the fine line between musical complexity and beauty. `We Must Praise' features soaring vocals as it hails the majesty of God, `Unto Thee' with its focused message pleases with its "Take 6-esque" treasures, and the sparse jam "Psalm 150" reminds us that PAJAM has not lost its ability to make your head nod. This album will be appreciated by the musician listening for something new as well as the casual listener desiring to hear an earnest Christian reveal his passion for God. Amidst all the careful artistic detail, Moss is crystal clear about the importance of serving Christ and living a sanctified life. I agree, this album IS a CLASSIC. I Challenge anyone to give this album less than a five-star rating; and I dare song writers out there to haphazardly slap together a hook and lyrics and think that they've done something special...Excellence Folks, Excellence

J Moss' music is annointed and you feel the presence of God when you listen. After the Truth about Hip Hop I felt like I could not listen to anything. J Moss' CD opened my eyes to Godly music I could really groove to and praise God 2.

This CD has led me into heights of praise and worship that has resulted in lifting my spirits, leading me closer to the Lord, acknowledgement of His mercy and grace. I love the Lord with all my heart and J. Moss has captured the heart of a Believer who loves our Redeemer! If I had to pick "favorite" songs, they would be: We Must Praise, Unto Thee, The More I Think, Psalm 150, Give You More... and my ultimate song of repentance and restoration, Me Again. I guess that's about the whole album! God bless J. Moss for allowing the Holy Spirit to lead him in presenting a CD like this that blesses the lives of Christians every time we listen to it. God be praised!
