This review is from: J. Strauss: Valses de Vienne (Audio CD)
I don't know for a fact but I'm pretty positive that after my investigations, this is not an authentic Strauss Operetta. The copy I own has a brief synopsis and historical info but it is all in French and I can't read it (I think the whole operetta maybe a biography on Strauss's life but that is only based on my crude attempts to decipher what they're saying). But I feel safe in presuming that this was somebody elses blending of Strauss's most famous waltzes and making an operetta. The end result is pure bliss though! The orchestration is definitely not what experts have agreed upon as the 'Strauss Jr. sound' but the very French touch in it is why it is part of this collection.
If you do not like the arrangment you may be forgiven (as long as you're willing to forgive the arrangers) but Mady Mesple does an excellent job in her role and her voice is quite angelic throughout and Bernard Sinclair also does a...very good job. To be precise, this recording is very enjoyable and I will listen to it repeatedly, because!...there are so few recordings of Strauss's operetta's out there and this gives the impression of at least one more. Can you blame me?...don't answer that...
